I have had a pair of FWB sports grips that were stain from usage and I have tried a number of things

whiting helped but it made a mess and after several tries gave up and I tries a lot of thing, but the best results was when I soaked them in jar of acetone

soaked a day or more and used a toothbrush on them and so it was soak and brush for a couple of weeks and they are close to being clean but I'm not happy with them, perfect they are not

of course this was on the stippling part of the grips and so they have sat unfinished because if I stain them that soil will show, I'm thinking

so a I have a can of minwax cherry and gunstock for colors but I would sure like to get the last bit of staining off them

so any suggestions short of sand blasting with a mini blast that I don't own, I could always paint them black, just kidding

I did learn a lesson if you buy just grips or a pistol that has badly stained grips don't, if you think that it will be an easy fix it is not, I have read many post with all sorts of ideas but there is a point of diminishing returns and I have gotten there, did I hear black paint how about grey, red, pink, no pink, purple, just stain them and be happy, I hate it when a type out loud LOL

take care

fine grit sandpaper 220+ since it sounds like you are going to be refinishing them anyway. Outside of sanding or using a wire wheel brush on a drill the stains will have penetrated into the sub layers of wood and  i have found it next to impossible to get them out. without getring to the deeper wood. darker stains will blend with them but if they are to concentrated the stains will leave dark splotches where stains are. good luck

I'm not sure the stippled areas would like the that wire brush and that is the only areas I'm having trouble with

the FWB 65 sports grips are from the factory a light golden color and my goal was to match the color, I knew that I could hide what is left of the staining with a darker stain but as stated my goal was to with as close as the factory color as possible

but thank you for your input maybe I will soak them some more in the acetone, it's just a project
