I had a 1720T for field target but sold it. I was using a Hawke scope due to liking the 1/2 mildot retical. I am thinking of buying another 1720T. Anyone tried the Discovery 3-12 with the Hawke style retical. I have a Discovery 8-32 and have been impressed so far. Good glass and the "clicks" are spot on. Tracks as well as my Sightrons and 35X Leupold. Thanks, Don

First off ( An AAFTA RULE ) that Hunter Pistol scopes CAN NOT be above 12x period !  Which miens no higher mag scopes turned down !

Have tried quite a few combos and settled now with what is felt as best overall ..... a HAWKE Panorama 4-12x50 EV AO

It is an OBJECTIVE focus and scales out really well in the >10 to 35 yards we shoot at.  Huge FOV and the killer 10x 1/2 dot reticle being bright & super clear, illumination too should you need it.

I don't shoot much Pistol FT, when I do, I shoot "Hands Only", so no scope; but let me suggest another good option for your "Ristol" or is it "Pifle"?:

😉

The 2 MOA reticle's divisions are pretty close to the 1/2 mrads of the Hawke. It is small and light, incredibly strong (like magnum springer rifle strong), and has real good glass. Not expensive, about $50 cheaper than the Hawke.

The Hawke may range a bit better, but AFAIR, Pistol FT is limited to 40 yards, so you do not REALLY need the 50 mm's objective, and the diminished weight atop your pistol may make a big difference in positional stability.

Just another angle to approach the problem.

Keep well and shoot straight!

I've had good luck my Aeon 3-12 mil dot. I think I have 4 marks on the 6 inch wheel. Works for me, may be just luck?😆

I use a UTG SWAT tactical 3-12 with ETCHED mil dot reticle ( Do NOT get the wire reticle, its wayyyyy too thick and useless) .    I have a 100 mm side wheel and it works fine for PFT.  It  works well and costs $ 129.  There are a few options out there for you, just look around and buy once hopefully.

I have one of the UTG swat scopes with the etched retical. I tried it on my pistol. l guess its my eyes but the mildots were spaced to far apart for me. I like the 1/2 mil reticals. Don

Reticle thickness is a matter of preference. I've used a number of UTG SWAT scopes. I prefer the UTG wire reticles because they are thicker and have a more consistent dot pattern.

That is what i shot for 2 seasons .... makes a very nice pistol scope but really only ranged OK and never really being snap in / snap out.  Glass was bright but image clarity was never sharp.  Used beyond 40 or so yards ... worthless IMO.  Sold It this spring with no regrets.

FWIW ... just shot the Oregon State FT Championship this past weekend ..... managed a 1st place finish in Hunter shooting the Panorama 4-12x50 Ev AO on the Scorpion phifle shown above.

I have a few FT pistols set up. All are capable of shooting 1" at 55 yards.

20190712 213405 907x1612

My home built Pifle is using a Hawke Airmax 3-12x50.

Scope clicks extremely well and reticle is great. Ranges well. Would have secured my third 100% for Limited pistol GP last weekend if my reg didn't fail.

 My wife's pistol 1720t

Uses a Hawke sidewinder 3-12x50.

Ranges very well, half mil for reticle is also great for holdover.

My spare pistol I put together is a Airmax/ PP700 with an air Arms EV2 barrel tuned to shoot 8.44 jsb at 795fps.

It sports a UTG Accushot Compact 3-12 with wire reticle. I have three of these scopes. The wire reticle is not too think for my preference, after all you're shooting pistol. The targets are quite a percentage larger at the distances shot compared to rifle. I haven't had a circumstance where the reticle was an issue. Two of my UTG 3-12 scopes are extremely good at ranging. They edge out my hawkes. The reason why they are on a spare pistol is because the scope hasn't clicked accurately enough for me and it is a dedicated holdover scope.

The UTG is readily available to purchase through Pyramyd, Amazon, AGD, and many many other retailers. The Sidewheel is also an inexpensive purchase.

If you support the theory of a lighter scope on top for a lower center of gravity.... then a 1 inch tube version might be a choice.  I use a Vantage Hawke $129ish, that has side focus down to 10 yds and ranges real well. .. and I like the reticle, with the half mil marks.

I'm also one to mount the scope as close to the barrel as possible for as little amount of clicking or holdover between 10 and 35 yards.  There is so much less room for ranging error.  I like the numbers when my scope is 1 and 1/2 inches center of scope to center of barrel height.
