DIFTA  will host the Maryland State Championship Field Target Match on Sunday June 10 at the IWLAWAC chapter in Damascus MD.

Registration will start at 9:00 ending at 9:45 followed by a mandatory shooters' meeting. The match starting at 10:00 am will be 72-shots with 12 lanes, each three targets shot twice, with forced positions and a difficulty ≈ 28T. Pot luck BBQ follows: bring $ or something to grill.

Once on site keep right at 1st fork, drive past the green equipment shed and the trap ranges, and park at the end of the road by the woods. Follow the road into the woods to the air gun range and FT course.

I am strongly thinking about doing the same. I'll have to drive alone so the headache is trying to stay awake. But there is a very good chance I will make the match after shooting Binghamton on Saturday.

Fifteen brave shooters braved the weather forecast and attended the match. Among them two new shooters: Scott Broom, who used Keith’s equipment and profited of his coaching, and Chris Chaney, who shot the match with his CO2 gun topped by a 3-9x40 scope. Due to the not so favorable weather forecast, it was decided to eliminate two lanes (i.e. reducing the match from 72 to 60 shots) and to reduce the maximum allowed time to 6 minutes per lane (i.e. one minute per shot with no extra setup time).

Most of the shooters managed to finish the course just when the rain started pouring hard. The only team of three shooters had to wait more than half hour for the rain to calm down, before being able to terminate the match.

The theoretical difficulty of the course was just over 28T, However, the foliage and the thick overcast reduced the light rather dramatically, making challenging to see the kill zone in more than a few targets.

Nevertheless, Sean McDaniel managed to complete the match dropping only three points, winning Hunter division. Mark Mayer shot the second best score, winning Open PCP.

Keith took the lead of WFTF PCP, whereas Ray won WFTF Piston.

Considering that this was the first match for Scott and he came only to observe and was coerced to shooting the match by Keith, he did remarkably well.

Remarkable is also the performance of the other novice, by knocking down 25% of the targets using a CO2 gun and a 9x scope. Some of the kills included 3/8” targets and targets at 45yd and beyond.

The next event will be a fun shoot on Saturday, July 14 (we are thinking about organizing the course as 18-hole FT golf that could be shot on three levels of difficulty—given that we will deploy three targets per lane, nothing prevents you from shooting the course as a regular FT match), whereas next regular match will be Saturday, August 4.

See you soon!
