Hi All,

If I'm not mistaken, this is my first jaunt into this particular corner of the YF site--the FT corner, that is. Sometimes my posts are more about things of a theoretical or informational nature, but not this time. That is, I've recently finished all the internal work on a well-tuned R1, and now I need to set up and calibrate the owner's scope and sidewheel so he can successfully compete, as much as it depends on the equipment.

That leaves me with questions about two items: 1. The tape that gets stuck on the wheel for marking yardages, and 2. Needing to locate an air gun ballistic program--hopefully a free one--that I can recommend to the owner for tweaking his preferences whenever he wants to do so.

First, about the tape: the sidewheel has just been completed by Eric Sanders at scope-werks.com, so I should have it within a week.  It's going to be attached to a new Athlon Midas Tac 6-24x50 scope with MOA reticle.  (It's one of Athlon's newer models).  On Eric's site, he has several photos of wheels with some kind yellow tape stuck to their perimeter.  But, when I asked him if he sold it, he said, no.  He said his customers were getting it from somewhere unknown to him, marking the yardages, then covering all of that with clear tape.  That's as much as he knew about it.

So, has anyone found a good brand of tape suitable for this application?  I mean, I'm sure I could find 'brand x yellow tape' on Amazon, etc.  But, the good adhesion and durability need to be there.  I would imagine that regular Scotch tape will work for a clear cover, but the yellow tape probably needs to be an above-average grade.

Next, the ballistics software: I have two versions of Hawke Chairgun saved on my Windows computer, and It looks like I'm using Chairgun 3 right now, although when the program opens, it says "Chairgun Pro" across the top of the screen.  Anyway, I like it for several reasons, at least one of them being it's simple to understand and use. But, I did a Google search, and found results that said that Chairgun is no longer being supported (I was hoping my customer could simply download a free online version, like I did some years ago).

I still have copies of the original 2 Chairgun "Setup" files, but I don't know if that helps or not.  First, they might be copy protected.  Second, if I successfully copied one and sent it to him, I don't know if it might crash his computer ( I have Windows 7 Home Pro.--I don't know what he's using yet).  Last, and maybe most of all, even if it would copy and load and work right, I certainly don't want to violate anyone's copyright(s).

I know how to field test for obtaining and fine-tuning the parallax yardages, so I can put them on the wheel.  And, I know how you can also field test for elevation knob adjustments/clicks.  But, an accurate ballistics program would sure save a lot of time and trouble on the latter, at least for obtaining some starting numbers.

So, I think that's all of it.  Any comments?  If so, you have my sincere thanks in advance.

I use scopeknob but it is not free. It allows you to print out sidewheel and turret tapes in several colors that you are seeing. I use 2 sided tape to attach them and packing tape to cover them for potection. The program has a learning curve but works well after you get the hang of it. Don

if you go to this link: https://www.hawkeoptics.com/chairgun-and-x-act-end-of-life.html it has a chairgun for pc in the bottom right corner. I run it on my win 10 PC, no problem.

With scopeknob you can put in your zero, 10 yard clicks, 55 yard clicks and the program will give you the rest of your clicks. Don

I use Scopeknob as well. Prints on plain paper. Got my copy when it was free. I use scotch tape on the ends and a glue stick in between. Clear poly can waterproof the paper, but it will darken the paper a bit. Look up Scopeknob. There are free downloadable versions, but I don't know how they will compare with the purchased version. Either way it is a great program.
