Field Target Match - Southeast PA in Fairless Hills, PA - Sunday 05/20/18
The Falls Township Rifle and Pistol Association in Fairless Hills PA (Philadelphia suburb) will be holding our eagerly anticipated first Field Target match of the 2018 season on Sunday 05/20/18. The 10 lane course is laid out on the lakeside trails of the club’s 3D archery course. We’ve planned an interesting course by going back to a couple of seldom used lane locations plus we’ve picked new target sites for previously utilized lanes in keeping with our goal of making each match a unique event. There will be plenty of targets that even novice and new shooters should be able to take down along with challenging lanes and targets for the more experienced entrants. We certainly look forward to seeing all our regulars, urge them to bring a friend and invite anyone interested in Field Target to join us for some FT fun.

Match Report Falls Twp. Rifle and Pistol Assn. in SE PA 5/20/18
The Falls Township Rifle and Pistol Association located in Southeastern PA held our first Field Target match of the 2018 season on Sunday, 5/20/2018. The drenching rains in the days prior to the match along with an iffy forecast for match day seemed to keep our attendance down a bit from our normal levels. Despite the high humidity, thick overcast and early morning fog that opened the day by the time shooters were being sent out to their starting lanes the sun was beginning to break through and lift the spirits of the gathered competitors.
The 10 lane, 30 target course of fire for the rifle competition was laid out along the trails of the club’s lakeside 3D Archery course. The rifle course had an average distance of 32.3 yards, an average kill zone size of 1.3 inches and a calculated Troyer difficulty rating of 27.9 without allowance for wind or light / dark conditions. There were 10 targets sited at distances at more than 40 yards and only 5 targets at 20 yards or less. In order to accommodate those who might have wanted to shoot with a pistol a number of lanes had special pistol only targets which were within the proscribed pistol distances (10-35 yards) if the rifle target was out of range. The pistol course distance averaged 20.2 yards and an average kill zone size of 1.2 inches.
It was great to see many of our regulars after the winter hiatus and even better to see a new shooter in the person of Lou Musella who took a two and a half hour plus road trip from Duchess County New York to join us for his first ever Field Target match. A couple of newly acquired guns made their first appearance at Fall Township, most notably Tom Ryan sporting a Thomas rifle with Rich Bassett and Tom Wade each breaking in their Air Arms EV-2s.
Brian Van Liew finished the day with the match high score of 52/60 which was good for first place in the combined AAFTA Open / WFTF class trailed by Mike Harris and Al Otter both at 49/60. Mike was awarded second on the basis of his 4 out of 6 score on the tie breaker standing lane where Al came up 1 short with a 3 of 6 performance. Amongst the Hunter class shooters Tom Wade’s 49/60 was tops followed closely by Tom Ryan’s 47/60. Stan Lipinski carded a 44/60 to edge out Craig Evans (41/60) in the Unlimited class. Craig Evans was the only Pistol class competitor posting a 33/40 score. A full list of shooters equipment and scores will be pasted in below.
As always thanks to the FTRPA archers for the use of the lanes. We truly appreciated the effort and dedication of all those who choose to shoot with us especially when conditions look like they might be less than ideal. We would like to extend a special thank you to all those who helped with the tear down and pack away of all the targets, bases and other match paraphernalia especially Walt Gregory, Tom Wade and Brian Van Liew who stuck with us until the last item was secured in the target trailer. Please try to join us for our next match Sunday, July 15, 2018. We hope to see you there.
