I want to put a Walnut stain on my Edgun Lelya stock, but I'm concerned it may be beechwood.  I have read horror stories about refinishing beech, and am asking if anyone has refinished a Lelya stock, and/or knows what kind of wood it is?  Advice???

Angry old man

I'm old and never have attempted this before.

Tru-oil my friend.  What I would suggest is to strip the filler off first.  Gently sand any stubborn areas.  Clean with denatured alcohol.  Sand with 400, 800, 1200, and 2000 grit.  Then hand apply tru-oil and hang dry.  Before applying the next coat make sure the top coat is 100% dry.
