Just something I came up with once. Made these old Crescent pliers very handy. The straight knurled turret sight screw was stuck. Cracked it loose. Just bent some aluminum scrap around the jaws. The 1912 Improved Model D Sporting pattern I was working on is a very nice one. No rust and very little wear on the blue. The barrel is clamped in aluminum soft jaws. They work well also. Under the screw I found the original little flat spring. Pretty rare to find that intact. Only pre WW1 had those. The gun cleaned up very nicely and I also made a new leather seal for it. The gun had little pieces of cut up nails? imbedded in the original seal. Typical. The old spring is still very good. Fine shooter. Good for another 100 years
