Larry asked us northern members of his club to run the site in line and have a side shoot for shooters while they are waiting for their turn on the shooting line.
Shooters will be able to go to the site in line before, (Saturday and Sunday morning), and during the match. The site in line will have paper at 50, 75, 115 yards, so competitors can get dialed in.... but be advised, that one is way better off to get dialed in at 115 yards, before they arrive....
Remember, 25 cal in not allowed. Most shooters will be trying 18 grain 22 cal at about 850 to 900 fps. Our club will be shooting the lowly Gauntlets... we are coming to help Larry, for the fun, and to visit our friends:-) Some brave souls are bringing their .177 cal field target rigs.
So, since the game is clay at 115 yards and shooters will not likely see their misses in the bales of hay, if they miss the clays on the shooting line, competitors will be heading to the paper on the site in line. Space is limited on the site in line, and Larry wants us to limit shooters to 20 minutes at a time to allow all competitors a chance there. So, after their time on the site in line, competitors can play the side shoot and get some more practice and win or loose, some more money:-) Same type game, but with knock down targets (the "Terrorists") off hand at the same 115 yards.
More details to come..

Remember this match ... ?
The First Western National Long Range Airgun Match is over now. We all had a great time! The shooting turned out to be tougher than most thought it would be, but some good shooting was done. I had initially planned for a large cash prizes for the top three shooters, but changed my mind and spread over the top five. We also planned for over $2100 gate, but it was reduced by no-shows. But still, some good prizes were awarded and most of were humbled by the fact its harder to hit a clay pigeon at 115 yds than it appears, esp when shooting on the clock, side by side with some other pretty good shots.
Many traveled long distances and camped on the ranch so they could get some good sight-in time and socialize with old and new acquaintances. Most of these guys helped with setup or teardown, calling the line, scoring, or anything else needing done as well. We had some nice meals, shared some beverages, plinked and shot the bell target at night, and told airgun stories day and night. We even had some long distance visitors that didn't shoot, but just wanted to observe and meet the guys.
We were blessed with a couple expert target setters! Jame Brinkley brought his teen-aged daughters down and we recruited them to reset the clay targets all day and advise of hits that were not so obvious from the firing line. He and Jeff Carmelo also supplied wood and metal barrier material to provide protection from errant shots and give shade to the girls. those Brinkley girls were the best thing to happen to any airgun event! Wayne and his Oregon crew did a fine job preparing the sightin line, and also set up most of the target setter's shelter.
At the end of a long morning shoot, we broke for lunch, then completed everyone's the last relay and tallied the scores. We had a four-way shootoff for fourth place (I was in it too) and gave cash awards to:
First Place, Bobby Corcorran
Second Place, James Brinkley
Third Place, Mike Bricker
Fourth Place, Matt Saenz
Fifth Place, Jim Ziegler
Other shooters were: Justin Welch, Jeff Carmello, Tim McMurray, Russ Cronk, Larry Durham, Carlos Iglesias, Kelly Hawe, Wayne Burns, Gabe Valenzuela, Randy Ebersole, Roger Lovett,
Matt Kelerman, Ron Jobbe, Chris Lovett, Fred Phillip, David Welch, Eric Lover, and Scott Shenk.
That was a great match Larry! We had a fun time competing, trading and visiting. We are talking about setting up something like that up here in Ashland, cause we had so much fun and it seemed like others did too. Thanks for the idea and all the effort to put on the event for us all!
and... Happy Birthday!
