THAGC MONTHLY MATCH REPORT
4/14/18
Yesterdays match couldn’t have asked for any nicer weather. With temps starting in the 60’s & getting up to about 80 was great compared to our colder winter matches. Mother Nature decided that we needed some wind to go along with all the warmer air & sunshine. Weather report was calling for 10-12 mph winds with higher gusts. I would say that is about right for what we experienced at TCRC.
We had 16 shooters arrive early Saturday morning to prepare for the days event. We had several new or new to TCRC shooters. Rod Mann came up from Oriental, NC & used the club loaner rifle to compete while he is getting his rifle completed. Mike Edwards also joined us from Clayton, NC & shot my old / his new Steyr LG110. Mike had purchased it from me a few days before. Louis Loria came down from P-town, VA (Portsmouth for those not from this area) for his first match. Ray Hawkins was kind enough to let him use his Marauder for the match. Louis is in the process of setting up a sweet HW97/ Hawke 10-50 combo. Jody & Pam Morrison made their first-time appearance at TCRC. The long-distance ward goes to my friend from New Jersey, the world-famous Brian Van Liew.
The course was the back half of the 25 lane Euro course that we shot in November 2017. It was 15 lanes, 2 targets per lane, 2 shots per target for a 60-shot course. It had a SD of 5.7 with an average Troyer rating of 33.81 w/o wind. Factoring in wind raised the SD to 7.05 and a Troyer of 41.36. So, hats off to all of the new shooters who shot yesterday either without a lot of FT experience or shooting rifle/scope combos that you were unfamiliar with or a combination of both. You guys & gal did really well considering the course difficulty & wind.

Chris,

Your hard work and dedication to our club and sport is very much appreciated. You really do a great job setting up the course and managing the matches as you do.

I too wanted to congratulate our winners for some exceptional shooting on a very tough day. The Troyer score with the wind says it all. It was also really nice getting to meet your lovely wife, Jody and Pam Morrison and Brian Van Liew from New Jerrsy and other friends for dinner the night before. It was a blast for me and can't wait to do it again this weekend at Gerald's place.

Hey Chris, it sounds like conditions, course, and weather were optimal for a great day of shooting.  We are gearing up here for our monthly match next weekend, and I am looking forward to it.

I see my buddies, Jimbo Dinkus and Ray Hawkins were in attendance and shot well.  I am really looking forward to October at your place.  I am crossing the "t's" and dotting the "i's" in order to get my ducks in a row to be able to do that.

Meanwhile, you had a great match with a good turnout and some terrific scores.  Keep up the good work.

Mark

Thanks Mark !! Looking forward to you coming back east to shoot with us. Planning on seeing you in September @ Mormon Lake for your State championship. What is the address of the Motel 6 over by Buffalo Wild Wings where you & Pat stayed last year?

Ray, I'm glad that you had a good time. You shot a really good score yesterday. We definitely had some tricky winds all day. Now it's time to tear down that part of the course and have it ready for the August match. Also enjoyed our dinner out with the gang Friday night. we definitely need to do that again.

Curt, as always it's a pleasure shooting with you. Looking forward to seeing you at the airport in Atlanta in a couple weeks. Hopefully we'll both have a good weekend at the Cajuns.

As a first timer with a borrowed roscoe I had a great time. Chris set up a superb course which was kinda super hard but also uber fun. Sorry but can’t think of any more superlatives. Special thanks to John Ford who got stuck with me as a shooting partner. John did great, shooting a 45...undoubtedly would have done better but I borrowed all of his shooting paraphernalia (except the rifle) so he had to keep handing it over to me instead of focusing on shooting. Anyway thanks to Chris, John, Paul and all of the folks out there for helping me have a really nice  first shoot!

Thanks to Chris for another challenging course... The day was perfect with the exception of the heavy wind. But that was the best part to learn your wind doping. The woods had the wind swirling and coming from many directions. Offering yu a chance to try and figure out the directions for hold offs.....

It was also great to meet the new shooters, and old friends as well.

Phillip had the day with his high score. Good job bud.

Luv it!  Phillip certainly showed why they call him "deadeye".  Had a lot of fun, and I hope I helped get Rod addicted... I mean interested in FT.  ?
