DIFTA Match Report Saturday, June 26, 2021

Unusually for DIFTA there was almost no wind at today’s match, although a few gusts that were hard to call caused difficulty for a couple of unfortunate shooters. The sky was mostly overcast, with intermittent cloud break, leading to a few targets in deep shadow. Overall, conditions were as good as it gets at DIFTA for this time of year.

We had a 72-shot match, with one offhand and one kneeling lane. The average difficulty of the course  was 30.35T with only three 3/8” targets, which nearly everyone dropped. The offhand and kneeling lanes were the biggest challenge for all shooters except Brian Van Liew who cleared the kneeling lane.

The highest score of the day (59) was shot by Mark Mayer closely followed by Brian Van Liew in open PCP.  In Hunter piston Tom Ryan (56) was the clear leader, and generously loaned his Thomas FT / SIII to Paul Varney, who’s rifle malfunctioned during the sight in. Paul did a great job adapting to an unknown rifle, clearing several lanes once he got settled in. Our two piston shooters put in great performances, with Scott Broom in Hunter with 52 and Hector Medina in WFTF with 46.

From the match directors’ perspective, the highlight was zero target malfunctions and seeing everyone having a great time. Thanks to everyone for a great match, and especially to those who travelled long distances to shoot with us.

We need a minimum of 4 shooters to run our next match on Sunday August 1. Hope to see you again.
