What a giant relief getting some cooler weather along with a near absence of smoke for our SVFTC August Field target match. Our day started just past 7:30 am finding the ranges gate wide open inviting us to get after setting up the days match. With many pitching in we just let the set up be organic within the confines we had to work with today being 1 bay shy of our typical room within the Cowboy town. By @ 8:15 we are ready to get the sign in done and get after some practicing. Match is officially under way just past 9:00 with 20 shooters signed up, ready & willing.
The beautiful day we had brought out the best of our shooters. After going through almost the whole summer of relentless heat and now fires consuming millions of acres of our forests, the match started with temps in the 70's with clear, smokeless skies and NO winds. This is the first match I can remember that I did not hold outside of the kill zone for any shots. The piston shooters had a field day making the most of the conditions and shooting some great scores. We were happy to see some long missing regulars, Welcome back Mark and Darren!
The Hunter Class shooters also had a great day posting the highest scores for the day. As is becoming a national trend over 2/3rd's of our shooters are Hunter Class. Is is time to form a US Hunter Field Target Organization?
Due to our space limitations better than half of today's lanes were 3 targets per lane. Offhand was 6 shots and kneeling another 4 ... ( Who loves ya! ). All said a 60 shot match that was, by in large, absent of any wind and smoke with the scores very much reflecting such. . THANKS FOR MAKING IT OUT !
