At last year Nationals I believe there was some conversation about the World WFTF Championship coming to the US in 2020 or 2021. I believe it was mentioned that those from the USA might or would have to qualify to shoot this event here in the US. I also recall seeing something on the old yellow about how the selection process would be structured as to qualifying events class placements
On the West coast they appear to be holding WFTF qualifiers this month. I am asking if someone ”In the Know” would elaborate on this selection process and what the time frame / qualifications will be if this information is available. Time flies so I’m sure anyone that would like to shoot that event would appreciate any information available. Thank you.
Hey Bill,
From what I've heard it's going to be 2021.
I don't believe Scott's shoot this upcoming 17-19th is an official "qualifier".
The match itself will consist of a WFTF style course, one shot per target with 15, 25 and 40mm Killzones.
I really like the idea of what he is doing. I'm shooting at his GP then driving home that sunday night and flying to Poland the next morning.
I think if it's doable more clubs should consider hosting preparation matches for the upcoming world's.
As far as being able to go to the world's in general I believe anyone can compete as an individual, but if you want to be on the team you have to contact the team captain of the year and discuss it with them to see if there are spots available etc.
Hope this helps,
Cameron
I am the USA representative to the WFTF. Here is some info on future Worlds.
The USA’s assigned year is 2023, however if the countries ahead of us decline to host, we could host earlier. 2021 seems the most likely year at present.
Official WFTF qualifiers include our GP series and Nationals, but you must shoot in WFTF class for your score/ results to count. ( there are WFTF style matches being held, but they have been mostly training/ experience type matches)
Next year’s Worlds will be in England. With 40 member countries the number of shooters has been increasing each year with over 400 spots being allotted for 2019. They will be allotting these spots in rounds, with all entries going through the RGB (representative governing body) of each country. AAFTA is our RGB. First round will allot 8 PCP and 6 spring spots per country. Registration fees for these will have to be paid before round 2, when countries who have paid first round fees will receive another allotment of spots. This procedure will continue until the competition is full. Interested in Worlds 2019, drop me a line.
It is likely we would follow a similar procedure, but because because most foreign shooters will have substantially farther to travel than for European Worlds, I think we’ll have fewer of them travel to the USA.
The host country receives extra spots so if/ when we host we should be able to accommodate most, if not all, interested USA shooters.
Note that WFTF World rules differ just a bit from our own WFTF class rules. One significant difference is in standing and kneeling lanes. You may not rest the rifle on anything to rangefind, although you still may sit to do so. I recommend learning and practicing ranging in the required position to avoid timer issues.
A second difference is the WFTF does not allow any overages on 12 ft lbs. Most shooters using 8.4’s set their gun up around 780 FPS. 7.9 shooters usually go about 810. ( or slightly less)
A third difference is that bum bags are measured by placing them in a 55 X 55 X 15 cm box and the lid must close. (Approximately 21.5 x 21.5 x 6 inches) I have a standard bum bag and it easily fits.
Our Worlds qualification procedure is outlined on the AAFTA website.

Good shootin’

Dan, That’s why the questions. Maybe that is only to make the Team but maybe not???? With the number of forum members that has viewed the request I would have expected more info than what has been posted. Guess we have to take into account that this forum is not as busy as the old one was.
Bill, our club is hosting a GP match with a course that complies with both AAFTA and WFTF rules. It's an AAFTA GP match and not a qualifier for any WFTF world event. All AAFTA Divisions/Classes are allowed. It's just the course that is WFTF compliant. I'm looking at giving more USA shooters a feel for what to expect at the upcoming (2021?) USA WFTF World match.
There are other differences, including some consolations required by the WFTF rules:
Not including environmental/elevation factors, WFTF positional targets are required to all be under 28T. where AAFTA allows 50T.
For WFTF free position targets, WFTF difficulties are all under 40T. wheres AAFTA again allows 50T.
WFTF targets all have colored signs with numbers at each target location, making them easier to find. Also, the entire target and faceplate must be 100% visible from all shooting positions. Where AAFTA allows partial obstruction and no visibility requirement below 15".
Also, individuals can challenge a WFTF target's function, and get an immediate resolution.
Our rifle course will be at the low end of the allowable AAFTA GP difficulty, but we will have lots of far targets, with full wind exposure. That will make up for the lower Troyer factors. That's if it's windy - but it usually is at the Morro Bay range.
So Bill - since your asking, are you contemplating shooting WFTF style in the near future?
Scott, I would like too but getting up or down from the ground might be my biggest obstacle although shooting off a bum bag with out any support maybe a problem too. Next year I have been thinking about shooting open and see how that goes. I need a change and Open maybe a good start.
Don, You must be thinking of the wrong "Bill" because dbl knee replacements have left me without the range of motion to kneel per the AFFTA rules. I have shot all kneeling shots standing for the last few years. Still a little static between my brain and trigger finger. I'm hoping a straight jacket might assist that issue.
