Palmyra Sportsmen's Association (near Hershey, PA) - Field Target - Sunday, July 13, 2025

Our AAFTA (sub 20 fpe) Field Target format is 3 separate 5 lane loops or mini-courses. Someone can shoot all 3 loops for a unique 60 shot match course, or can choose to shoot any combination of loops, including shooting the same loop multiple times. A loop consists of 5 lanes with 2 targets per lane shooting 2 shots per target for a total of 20 shots per loop. There will always be a loop on our rifle range, which is friendly for those that do not want to walk on terrain. Each loop will also have one lane with a forced position (standing or kneeling). We will also identify 10 targets spread across all loops that can be shot as a pistol course of fire.

Additionally, we have a set of Silhouette targets setup that can be shot for score or for time, however you care to play. A run consists of 20 Silhouette targets (chickens, pigs, turkeys, and rams) at 20, 30, 36, and 45 yards. If shooting for time/speed, your score is the amount of time it takes to knock down all 20 targets. If shooting for score, your score is the number of targets knocked down when taking only one shot at each target. When shooting for score, you can shoot either all standing position, as Silhouette is traditionally shot, or you can use FT style rules, which allow you to follow your FT division's ruleset to shoot Kneeling, Standing, and Freestyle. Guns used for this event must be less than 20fpe at the muzzle, you can use the same gun you use for AAFTA field target.

There is no single scheduled start time for this event, you can start shooting a course when you show up. Most shooters choose to arrive near the earliest start time, and choose to shoot the full 60 shot field target course.

You can shoot both AAFTA and Air Rifle Silhouette at this event, or any combination of FT and Silhouette.

We will be open for sign-ups between 9AM and Noon. Sign-up and sight in range is at our Competition Rifle Range.
Cost is $5 per loop (Field Target). For Silhouette, $5 for the first two runs, +$2 for the third run, +$2 for the fourth run, +$1 for the fifth run and +$1 for each run thereafter.

We shoot rain or shine. Our range loop is on a covered range, and if we expect rain, all loops may be on a covered range.

This month all courses were setup on our covered competition range, similar to last month's setup. The green course was shot off the deck and west side of the range, the blue course was in the middle of the range, and the red course on the east side of the range.

The AAFTA three course average difficulty was 29.0 (Moderate) and the individual course sections had the following average difficulties (not including environmental factors):

  • Blue - 29.0 (moderate)
  • Green - 29.0 (moderate)
  • Red - 29.0 (moderate)

Scores - Each course is a possible 20, and the 3 course total is of a possible 60. Ties are not broken.

Silhouette scores (out of possible 20).

We missed Mike, hope he gets better soon.
