We had a very respectable turnout for a chilly November Field Target match at the Arlington Sportsmans Club in Mansfield Texas this past weekend. 14 shooters, including two new shooters from the Shooting Sports class at Howard Payne University (HPU) in Brownwood, showed up to take on 12 lanes in our wooded 3D archery course. The match this time was a shorter 48 shots due to colder temps, but the average Troyer of 31.0, SD 5.28, Avg Dist 26.8 yds, and Avg KZ .97” was a little tougher than last month’s course.
Overall, matches continue to run very well with no cold lines or malfunctioning targets. Thanks to Terry Vanpool for setup help on Friday, and also to everyone who joined us at the match, helped run the strings in the morning, and finally helped take down the course afterwards.
At the end of the match, we turned in our score cards and tallied the scores. Terry Vanpool with his Air Arms HFT500 bested Don Carmack by 1 point for 1stplace in Hunter PCP with 40/48 vs. 39/48, while Faisal Khan finished 3rdagain with 32/48. Jeff Cloud finished 1stin Hunter Piston again this month with 35/48, and Eric Pianori finished 2ndagain with 32/48, with Jim Clarke’s 29/48 qualifying him for 3rd. New shooter Katie Saenz bested new shooter Kendall Moore with 54/96 vs. 52/96 in the fun rifle class. Read more about the Shooting Sports class offered at HPU here. For all of you that couldn’t make it out, you missed another great match with a bunch of great guys and gals. I’d like to invite any of you out to shoot and tryout field target even if you don’t own an air rifle, because we have some to loan you to shoot with. I’d also like to make an invitation to anyone who would like to design a course for an upcoming match. I can provide a list of targets and pictures of the lanes along with other info that would enable you to layout a match for the rest of us to shoot. Designing a challenging course that others shoot is rewarding and gives back to the sport we all enjoy. We will have our next match the 3rdSaturday in December (21st) unless the response is low and then we’ll cancel until January.
See you at the next match,
