We have had torrential rain, four inches in a few days at one point, then searing heat to remind us that it is still summer and this has caused a record amount of grass to grow at the range! I went down with my zero turn mower but managed to burn out the drive belt, who would have though four foot high wet grass would be a bit too much for the zero turn? Never the less I had my other push mower repaired and went down Friday and cleared some lanes before the extreme heat started to make me feel less than well.... I planned on going down earlier on the next day (match day) and finish up with the push mower.
Of course Friday evening we had another bout of torrential rain, this with the push mower left at the bottom of the hill, which got drenched and of course would not start! Luckily for everyone that came out to the match, Brad Troyer got out there early as well, he brought a weed wacker and hedge trimmer, and once again saved the day, I had just enough time to go round and painted the targets just before every one arrived. And we shot in some real heat, we shot singularly, nine shooters on ten lanes, while it is more enjoyable when we are squadded together, it takes longer, so singularly we managed to finish the match well before 11am, and beat the heat advisory at noon.
Danny got his mojo back this week, matched his personal best, I wish I could blame my gun for my low score but the course clearing was maybe a bit much for my old fat body I think, LOL
Ray Barnett, who has not been able to make it out to a match this year apart from the Cajun Classic (which he won) and hasn't had time to practice, well he won his class of course, I hope we get to see more of Ray this year, sad to say but the season is starting to wind down, so if you are reading this and saying to yourself “I mean to go out and shoot” we only have a few matches left in the year, so come on out and have fun!!! Roz's match is in two weeks, don't miss it!
