GOB July Match Report 7/10/2021

The Good Ole Boys July gathering started a little differently as Roz had been assisting Pat's widow with the disposition of some of his Field Target collection and Mrs. Pat generously donated several items to the club. Roz in turn decided to give each club member one of the targets to remember Pat by. Many fond memories looking over Pat's large selection of targets, a variety of designs and mechanisms, but old and new. Roz reserved a couple of the bell targets for the sight in range, I think it fitting that we might remember the Fire Marshall when one of these bells (surely they are fire alarm bells) rings loudly with a hit.

We got a bit of a late start but the match went off as planned despite an "iffy" forecast and a large storm front approaching from a couple hundred miles to the northeast. It was a breezy morning which provided a little relief from the muggy warm day reaching low 90's by match end. 11 shooters for the match this month, the numbers are trending in the right direction!

David Slade clearly remembered to clean his barrel this month and apparently wasn't as bothered by the wind as some of us shooting an outstanding 54 for the match high score. Second for me this time and I felt like I worked very hard for that 50. Interesting how sometimes it comes seemingly easy and other times a struggle, UGH..

As usual, a tight battle of high scores for the Open crown but Jeff Hale shot a new personal best to take home the win. Mike Wright was a close second, Mike drives all the way from Indiana, great to see him for the second match in a row.

In Hunter, Brent continues to improve with his new HW100 and shot yet another personal best this month! Chase impresses with the springer as always and brought along a friend Jacob. It was Jacob's first field target match and we hope he had fun and will be back next match!
