DIFTA Match Report Sunday, November 5, 2023
With only three shooters signed up a few days before the match I submitted a post to the personal adds “Lonely Field Target Shooter Seeks Company”. This had the desired effect and eleven shooters turned out for our last match of the season. Temps started in the low 50s and climbed into the high 60s. With plenty of sunshine and falling leaves the targets were well lit in contrast to our last match. It was looking like a great match and the sight in range was a pleasure to shoot …. But as soon as we had the safety meeting somebody flipped a switch on the wind machine. The wind came barreling in with gusts of 3-5 mph and stayed with us throughout the match, calming down again just as people took their final shots. The course was 60 shots, 10 lanes, with one kneeling and one offhand lane, with three targets per lane shot twice. The average course difficulty was 30.3 T, with 10 shots > 40 yards; two 3/8” targets and six 0.5” targets.
The wind combined with a challenging match design proved to be a challenge for everyone. The match high score of 51/60 was shot by Brian VanLiew in Open Division; Greg White took the high score of 49 in Hunter and Mark King led WFTF with 48/60, closely followed by Knobs. Al Otter was unable to shoot the forced position lanes and ask to be scored DNF but changed his mind when the MD told him he had the second highest score in the Open Division.
As always many thanks to those who travel long distances to compete and keep our sport alive and for a surprise turnout to end the season.
Paolo Amadeo designed the course and Mark Mayer acted as match Director.
The first match of 2024 at DIFTA is on Saturday March 23.
