Field Target Match - Southeast PA in Fairless Hills, PA - Sunday 10/18/20 + Match Report
The Falls Township Rifle and Pistol Association in Fairless Hills PA (Philadelphia suburb) will be holding our first Field Target match of the Covid 19 shortened season on Sunday 10/18/20. Due to the pandemic and consequent club access restrictions we were forced to cancel our May and July matches.
For this event we will be observing established social distancing protocols with masks required when social distancing is not possible. We will use squads with the provision that social distancing is required. If you do not opt to socially distance then a mask is required at all times, except when you are in your shooting position. The choice is yours. We will observe safety precautions. There is plenty of room on the course and around the air practice range to maintain separation. When checking your Zero, use the time you need on the line and move on so that everyone has a chance to sight in.
The 10 lane 60 shot rifle course is laid out on the lakeside trails of the club’s 3D archery course. Within the confines of the 34 targets we have also laid out a 20 target / 40 shot course for those who wish to shoot pistol only or be adventurous and compete in both disciplines. Approximately 1/3 of the targets are tree or pole mounted with higher elevation angles. We have set up two brand new lanes and tried to pick new target locations within our existing lane structure. Although the average distance is longer than usual for us, with lots of full size kill zones there will be plenty of targets that even novice and new shooters should be able to take down along with challenging lanes and targets for the more experienced entrants. We certainly look forward to seeing all our regulars, urge them to bring a friend and invite anyone interested in Field Target to join us for some FT fun.
The remainder of the season match program with all details is pasted in below.

FIELD TARGET MATCH REPORT
Falls Township Rifle & Pistol Assn.
October 18, 2020
Submitted by Rick Bassett
Well after cancelling an indoor match and two outdoor matches in the spring we finally got a field target match in. The weather was just a little cool but otherwise perfect for a match with almost no wind on our wooded lakeside course that also doubles as the club’s 3-D archery course. Larry did his usual fine job designing another different and interesting course. This time he was able to increase the average target distance to a little over 33 yards while still keeping the Troyer down in the 28 range. This was accomplished by using some of our older Nok Down targets mixed in with the other numerous types of targets in our inventory. Kill zone sizes ranged from 5/8” to as large as 1 ¾” for the longer shots. This slightly different approach didn’t seem to change the scoring much as can be seen in the scores posted below. Brian VanLiew had the high match score only missing three targets, one in the standing lane ( his practice paid off there!), one elevated shot , and finally one very long shot. Very fine shooting! The next closest shooter was Leo Gonzales at four targets behind with his TX 200. Also pretty good shooting. If anyone would like our course layout just let me know and I will get you a copy.
Thank you to all the shooters who came out and attended our match and for everyone behaving in a responsible manner in these somewhat scary times. Thanks also to the archers for taking the day off and to all of our helpers. Our final match of the year will be the third Sunday in November.

Rick, Larry, Jim,
Thanks to you all for setting up, hosting the match and for the excellent Fall day. Kudos to Larry for a challenging but fair course layout.
Also to Larry, Pat and I thoroughly enjoyed spending the day on the lanes with you.
Thanks again to all of you!
Thanks to FTRPA and to Rick, Larry and Jim for having us at their Club!
Hope you enjoy!
Thanks guys, had a good time.
@dockey Tom I have not seen or heard from you in a while and I hope everything is going good with you and the miss.
I'm still kicking. Only been to a couple of matches this year. Hanging close, and staying safe.
