The match is still on. The course is setup with some minors adjustments needed for Sunday morning. The field still has some snow and can get muddy. It is melting so wearing waterproof boots is highly recommended and having a folding stool as well. North Street (dirt road with ruts) is officially closed with posted signs but it is the only road to get to the match site property. Road side parking only.

Remarks:

Initially, I though only a handful of dedicated people would show up to shoot in this undesirable winter weather. Nonetheless, 11 people braved the cold, snowy and windy weather to shoot the first outdoor match by CAGC. We had snow flurries on and off throughout the match.

We had plenty of snack food, donuts, fruits, water and hot cocoa at the match brought by our club members.

I underestimated the wind setting up the course. The wind was harsher than normal and would make things a lot harder - border line insane. I decided to count face plate hits since we had several first-time shooters in the match. A miss would be missing the face plate completely.

This year we are trying a WFTF style format – one shot per target with 40 targets and 20 lanes with 2 targets per lane with a 3-minute time limit. Targets are numbered from 1 to 40 and shot in numerical order. Score cards are the same used at the WFTF Worlds.

Hold offs for the wind ranged from 2" to 7" from the kill zone for my 10.7 FPE rifle. Other people shooting with higher power had less hold offs but still had to aim beyond the face plate on some of the longer targets when the wind blew hard.

Despite the weather, I think we had enjoyed the day of shooting. This match reminds me of the Blue Balls match held during middle of winter. Frozen toes, chapped lips, numb fingers and the shivers were the norm.

Thank you very, very much to all who helped setup, attended and also to those who helped take down the course.
