Imagine coming out to your first (or second) field target match with a new rifle, and the weather forecast is rain, up to 1" an hour and winds gusting up to 25 mph? When the famous surf contest at Mavericks is called off due to extreme surf?
What kind of crowd shows up on a day like that?
Well, take a look at these hard men:

The weather during sight in was eerily calm, pre tornado or eye of the hurricane calm.
None the less, these steely eyed lads stepped to the line with no hesitancy. Some came from as far as Palo Alto, Manteca and Hayward.
All will leave as victors.
Eric S. came out for his first match and we recorded his first "kill"- a .25 inch KZ at about 14 yards, using a .22 -19 ft/lb Impact.

The winds remained mild-ish and only sprinkles appeared periodically. The swirling dervishes of nature's air current's perplexed our finest, but didn't dismay or dishearten their spirits. If anything, a miss lead to a deeper determination to flatten the steel animals- and flatten those plates they did!

The results, out 50 possible, were amazing! The average kz was about 1/4- 1/2 smaller than we normally provide. Those tiny holes didn't get placed within normal Troyer expectations. There were maybe 2 "gimme" targets out there and rest required contemplation before squeezing off a shot.
Brandon came out for his second match, new Streamline in .177 and shot amaze-balls. The WFTF guys ruled the roost with their sub 12 ft/lb's mouse guns, and the Spring guns had their windup toys delivering the goods. All we needed was Bob K. and it would have been a perfect day.

You can tell you're with some shooters as the match progresses, and you range your next target.
When that targets paddle has hits all gathered center mass, from the previous snipers, the quality of the crew is self evident.
The hits centered despite swirly whirlies and changing conditions.

I'd like to offer a special THANK YOU to Jim P. and the rest of the crew for setting up and tearing down. Also, a special "Gol' Dang it!" to Riz for moving the 1/4" hole targets out to 25 + yards when my back was turned. He can craft a course to bedevil the best- well, confound all except for Dave C.

Great shooting guys.  And Dave C awesome job with Sensei Riz hot on your tail.  Usual San Joaquin valley weather. Cold and rainy.  Wow I don’t miss that at all.  I love my desert the last 26 plus years.   Hope to see you guys soon and shoot with ya after I retire Feb 1.  Til then practice practice practice as my buddy Mark K says.

Come on out when you've the freedom!

There is some exciting updates coming to Diablo, too new to share, but we may have more opportunities to use the facilities in 2019.

Merry Christmas!
