@deadeyenc Everytime I click on your link I get a big red screen with the following message. Seems my Anti virus maybe working overtime. Could you post the 2024 AFFTA changes here please. The Link does not work on my PC.
Thanks, Bill

@deadeyenc Phillip, Thank you for posting the 2024 rule changes. That was a big help for me and I'm sure a lot of other forum members.
I have one question on the rule changes.
"Revision to allow one shot per target at a Grand Prix" Is this change for one class .... WFTF, or does it include all classes?
Will GP match fees decrease if all shooters are only allowed one shot? Will the AFFTA Nationals follow suit seeing it is always a GP?
Thank you, Bill Day
Perhaps others can confirm, but I assume it would be just and option for GP match directors, and would apply to all classes. Matches would be the same number of shots as before- just one shot per target- so more individual targets would be used. I doubt match fees can be less as GPs barely break even as is or make very little financial proffit.
I read it as just an option, not a mandate. Others can confirm or correct my interpretation!
@deadeyenc Philip, Thanks again for the feedback. I didn't read it as optional but I could understand the WFTF going for it. No expert but I would seriously doubt most clubs have the real estate or the 55 to 65 extra functional targets to set it up. Not to mention all the extra work that would be involved.
Philip,
You are correct.
Bill,
We added this rule change as an option for match directors that want to run a GP this way for all classes at that GP. AAFTA doesn't set match fees, so I can't say if the fees will go up or stay the same. The match directors for the Nationals now also have the option to run that event in the same way for all classes if they choose.

@ Jeff;
Would you be so kind as to indicate exactly where the "one shot per target" thing was clarified? I've searched and cannot find the specific change noted.
Beyond Phil's notice, the pertinent clauses in the Handbooks seem to be identical over the last three editions:
The 2019 handbook read:
D. The match must consist of 100 or more shots over at least 2 rounds
not exceeding 60 shots each, with no more than 2 shots per target
and 3 targets per lane. No more than 2 targets per lane are allowed
at the National match.
The 2023 Handbook read:
D. The match must consist of 100 or more shots over at least 2 rounds not exceeding 60 shots each,
with no more than 2 shots per target and 3 targets per lane. No more than 2 targets per lane are
allowed at the National match
The 2024 Handbook reads:
D. The match must consist of 100 or more shots over at least 2 rounds not exceeding 60 shots each,
with no more than 2 shots per target and 3 targets per lane. No more than 2 targets per lane are
allowed at the National match
Now, I am not disagreeing with the new interpretation, as it was clear FROM THE 2019 Handbook on, that NO MORE than TWO shots per target were allowed, but this did not prohibit the ONE shot per target methodology.
I don't think that we NEEDED to change the rules but, since Phil has posted a notice of Rule Change, and the change is noted in the "roster" of changes, now we need to change the wording of section D of the "Qualifying Rules.- Rifle Match" section of the Grand Prix Rules to reflect that. JMHO
Again, thanks to the BoD's for all the hard work.
Keep well and shoot straight!

Hector,
We didn't modify Note D. The BOG rolled Note F into Note E to remove the requirement to move at least 50% of the targets after the targets are shot by competitors for one round. Note F said "F. If the same group of competitors shoot a course for more than one round, at least 50% of the targets must be moved a yard or more to vary the course for each round." We rolled that content into and revised Note E that now says "E. Once the targets on a course have been shot twice during the match, 50% of the targets on that course must be moved at least 1 yard before any additional shots may be taken on the course targets. Exceptions to the 50% rule would be for extenuating circumstances, such as dangerous weather, etc. The Match Director must inform at least one member of the Board of Governors (BoG) before making that decision." The rule now allows a MD to designate only one shot per target for that course, and the MD can come back and shoot the same targets on the same course a second time for a total of two shots per target without moving 50% of them. The effect is that the shooters experience a course per WFTF rules with only 1 shot per target during that round. Our previous rule did not allow this method to happen without moving 50% of the targets first.
Hope this is as clear as mud.
Yup!
Clear as mud.
I guess that the confusion COULD have arisen from using the word "round" for a "the whole shooter's lineup's go around the course once" and confusing this with "round" in the sense of "ball" or projectile/bullet/pellet/shot.
In a normal GP (the way most GP's are done), the whole lineup is usually divided into two "groups" (normally Hunter PCP and Open in one and all the rest in the other), since we do NOT interlace the courses, this provides a better across-divisions experience for all. BUT it does mean that the EXACT same courses get shot TWO days for TWO group-complete rounds (one each).
Under normal practice, then, each target can get shot TWO times (two individual pellets shot at the target) by everyone without the need to move them, and that is not quite as clear now.
Under one shot per target practice, the targets would only get shot ONCE by every individual shooter.
If everyone understands what is really meant, then it is fine.
Anyway, it's good that it has been made explicit.
Again, thanks for all the hard work!

@eirgunner Yes there are a few rule updates that will be available very soon. Just putting the finishing touches on them.
