Wayne,
whats the latest I can sign up?
and not having a basic break barrel match?
Great you might make it Dan!!
You can sign up at the match, and we'll have the "break barrel" class or separate match if enough want to shoot pistol and break barrel... We got plenty of awards and food planned so last minute competitors are more than welcome, we have plenty of lanes to work with, so we won't get too many shooters.
Wayne
Hope to get there
This year we are redoing the course layout and improving the shooting boxes with more decks to shoot from. I'm having too much fun with the old Masey Furgenson front loader I bought.... the road up and trail will be in top shape.
We also decided to move the pistol match to my ranch, where we will also be having the meals and after match BS and trading sessions. We should have the kitchen claimed back and set up by then in the greenhouse.
Let me know if you would like to camp out on my ranch... up to 6 or 8 can fit around here and there.. or in the pool room... first come first serve.
So, looks like Basic Break Barrel class is happening.. cause I want to play too. If you want to shoot the pistol match and break barrel class, you can... but you have to shoot the pistol match first, and then go back and shoot the BBB class.
Blessings,
Wayne
My entry will be in shortly ... Also in for PISTOL and BBB afterwards.
Nice to hear we're back at the home base ( ranch) for festivities & meals.
Scott S
More decks?! You sure spoil us Wayne. Happy to hear about the ranch being converted back to the gathering and food spot. Not to mention it is a great spot for a pistol match.
Put me down for a van camping spot please, I will be up late Thursday night most likely. I will register and pay when I arrive.
Very much looking forward to Oak Alley after Nevada, it's such a nice spot to shoot and watch the wind and sun play on the oak trees. I am going to be ready this time, not leaving anything to luck this time...
I'm officially ready .... HFT rig put back together where the mis-steps of NEVADA have been corrected, Hunter pistols ready as is the HW35 for BBB action.
Going to be a great 3 days up in ASHLAND OREGON ..... You SHOULD join us !!

Oh shit, the Hunter champ is back... guess you'll where a shirt with a bulls eye on it:-) WFTF from Hunter or Open.. like I did... is incredibly difficult still can't get it right after almost three years now... especially when your old men like us:-). After you get over the pain of the position without straps or bipod, then you have to retrain your brain for the wind hold off. .. and ranging is so much more difficult
Soooo glad your coming!!

Lol .... Yea after trying open and struggling to get steady as i can in hunter, then tried to shoot WFTF sitting deadman position, was the ONLY WAY to get my accustomed steadiness back.
Sadly deadman position ONLY WORKS on somewhat level ground and targets no more +/- 10* or so. Nevada state kicked my ass !! making it very obvious that if i am too enjoy the game I need to stick with whats comfortable and allows a high degree of stability be it Level, Up or Down.
CYA in a few weeks,
Scott S
Word is that Alan is planning to film this year also... so if you want to be a star... you better be here:-)
Here is what I know so far about attendance, but of course I'm an old man so it's most likely wrong somewhere:-)

OK, updates made so far
Course planning and set up is going well. Kitchen house is reclaimed and in process of being setup as a kitchen dining area again ... Home ranch camping areas being created and enhanced over previous years. Weather has been a lot cooler than normal... who knows if it will last, but it's been great during the hard setup days:-)
If your on the fence... fall off and get your butt in gear... high gear on your way up to a reallllly great match and fun weekend!
Wayne
Thank you Wayne, Randy, et al. I look forward to the return to yesteryear when you put on some of the best matches in the West. I know you all have put a tremendous amount of work into the courses, but I think everyone is excited about the return of the clubhouse and home ranch camping and practice area. The atmosphere created by that environment is truly enjoyable and brings all the shooters together to share stories and rehash the days events.
Really looking forward to this years match. As Wayne said if you are thinking about this match just do it! It should be a really great match as the Oak Alley course is one of the nicest courses on the West Coast and the return of the club house creates one of the best post match environments around.
See you all next weekend
Jim in Sacramento
Here is a link to a weather station only 1/8 mile from our shooting location. I'm sure some of you are wondering if the weather will be good or not. We have had cooler than normal and wetter than normal early summer.... but no thunder storms lighting fires like the last several years... the storms are still coming from the North West not the south.... and no rain the last three weeks. So, I think we may be in the most perfect conditions for the upcoming match.
The winds have been Daily 3 to 9 mph on the Oak Alley course while we have been re-setting course and installing the shooting platforms.... not one day without winds so far, which for me, as the match director, setting a course that is planning on some wind... is making ME at least a happy camper:-) Meaning, if there is no wind, the course will be on the easier side.. for you top shooters. That's all I'm saying... except
From last years' input you may think the wind is so light you can hold inside the kill zone on a 1.5 at 44, and find out it isn't so:-)

Blessings and travel safely please!
Wayne
Woohoo!
Getting excited. Tuned up the Thomas yesterday. She is back to normal again, not sure what happened for Nevada but that has been corrected.
I will be up late Thursday, leaving mid afternoon and will be camping in the van.
Woohoo!!
OK Jim,
I'm hearing the open class and overall high score for the GP 100% is all decided:-)
I'm not one to argue, but I'm hoping others will take the challenge:-)
Blessings on all your travels and may the best wind reader win:-)
Wayne
Not if us "Hunter" shooters have our way !!!
Game of Thrones ... Oregon style
some updates...
The U-tube movie gig is a go! You all will be movie stars! Pick your attire accordingly:-) I know I'm wearing my painters coveralls:-)
And because so many of the Oooooolllllddddeerrr competitors will be attending, I've decided to make it the normal two shots per target and only shoot half the course (13 lanes), each day. Who says political pressure doesn't work:-)
Have you checked the weather link I posted.... 86 for a sunny high on Saturday with winds 3 to 6 before 1pm
come on folks, how can it be better than that??
Blessings..
Wayne
Nah the Unsullied hunter pcp class will fall. It's them piston wildlings you have to worry about.

But But ... we are the dark side & I "Think we have dragons" ... could just be our own breath however ?
The sight in range will be open at 9:00 am on Friday at Oak Alley. (The lower course in the oak patch).
The pistol match will be held roughly 3:00 pm at the club house at Wayne's house.
This match will be so much fun and a pleasure to shoot. All the work Randy, Wayne and the rest of the crew have put in is amazing!
Hats off to the Ashland Field Target crew, another fantastic match all around!
No protests and only one target malfunction on a reset! Oak Alley did not disappoint once again, what a fantastic venue, could be quite the AAFTA National Championship venue as well...Perhaps one day at Oak Alley and another at Humility Hill... 😉
The only thing I would change; move the reset strings to the center right/left and about 6" to 9" from the front edge of the platform. I found the right side string winder to be right under my foot on almost every lane. For seated and bucket positions the centered strings would be far easier to work around/over and easier to reset. I had to really stretch to get the right string, often it messed up the good position I had established for the first shot. If it was a tricky incline/decline shot I had my squad mate reset the string so I could retain my good hold, which is a bit awkward as the strings are blocked by the person on the platform.
I have only been to one Humility Hill match, this was my second Oak Alley match and it was so much improved it was almost like shooting at a completely different location! You guys have created a FT compound unlike any other I have seen!
The course was great. I like the level/comfortable shooting boxes a lot. No rocks/dirt/mud when sitting on the ground. My biggest problem was me shooting the wrong targets. Targets were numbered so the only improvement there would be to also put those target numbers on the score cards (but I still would have shot them out of order!). The shooting boxes were level but there were plenty of incline/decline shots - enough to make it interesting/challenging.
Strings were easily accessible for me (though I'd prefer no crossing strings and straight instead of under/over branches).
Great weather and all-in-all, a fun match.
I just strangled my 20fpe Skyhawk down to 11.6fpe, and turned my scope up to 24x - getting it ready for the 2019 WFTF World match next month.
JimW, you shot fantastic on day 2!
Match Report – 2019 Oregon State Field Target Championships
We were very blessed with wonderful weather for our three days of matches. We were further graced with mostly sunny skies that had match time winds for the pistol and rifle matches just right for my course planning, in the 3 to 6 mph range. The high temps were a perfect mid 80’s, with about 30% humidity.
We had 12 pistol competitors on Friday afternoon, with three in limited PCP and 9 in Hunter PCP. We had seven shoot the Basic Break Barrel match late Saturday afternoon. For the rifle match we had 21 competitors on Saturday and 20 on Sunday with a friend of Cameron and Jessica joining in to taste the game on Saturday. Four CASA club members traveled from Southern CA, and most competitors came up from Northern CA.
Alan Mash again consented to film the event with his professional cameras. It will be posted when Alan gets time to edit it from his busy Hollywood filming schedule. Here is a link to last years’ video and you’ll be able to link to his U-tube channel for lots of air gun fun from there.
The Pistol match and meals were held at my ranch where some folks also camped out. We setup 7 lanes with three targets per lane and two shots per target, for a 42 shot match. The average kill zone was 1.23 inches at an average distance of 20.57 yards. The course difficulty was 32.57 T with a standard deviation of 4.69.
The pistol match was tightly contested, with only 3 points separating 9 of the 12 competitors in both classes when it ended. Riz Marquez and Scott Schneider each won their class and shared the high score overall with a 39/42. Cameron Kerndt and Scott Hull were one point behind with 38/42. Dana Wyse, Bob Kidd and I had a 37/42, and Randy E and Jessica K shot a 36/42.
For the rifle matches we shot in the shade of our Oak Alley course. The 10ac oak patch in the middle of grass pastures, (that are fast becoming hemp plantations, with the growing demand for CBD oils and hemp fiber…. Some folks said “look at all those rows of Pot plants”, but they were wrong, Pot plants are grown legally here, but totally differently), even still, our little patch of heaven stayed even cooler than the surrounding farmland.
We have now set up four, 13 lane courses with cedar shooting decks, which really make it nice compared to the hillside dug out shooting positions we had before. For us, building a deck is easier than digging out a level pad. Uphill shots became a lot more comfortable with slightly less angles and level sitting, and the downhill shots were elevated slightly, and a clean, flat surface to sit on was praised by many competitors.
We have two 13 lane, two targets per lane courses, at Oak Alley, which made us a 52 shot match each day, and 104 possible points to gain over the two days. There are NO level shots on either the “Humility Hill” or “Oak Alley” courses, with about 60% of the shots downhill and 40% uphill with angles varying on the Oak Alley course from 4 to 18 degrees and the Humility Hill course from 12 to 35 degrees. The winds attack the hills usually from the NW but since the area is a large open bowl at this end of the valley, they are always switching directions and what you THINK you learned on your first shot will likely not help you on your next shot…. Every shot must be re-evaluated for wind hold off.
Saturdays rifle match ended with Scott Hull in Hunter PCP and Riz Marquez in WFTF PCP sharing the overall high score with a 47/52. Randy Ebersole in WFTF PCP was only one point behind with a 46/52 and then Jim Whittlesey in Open class with a 45/52. Piston class high score for Saturday was shot by Jacob Sumner with a 36/52 in Hunter Piston class. WFTF Piston was up for grabs with Bob Kidd leading with a 29/52 and Cameron Kerndt right behind with a 28/52 and Jessica his wife with unborn child, shooting a 23/52... how's that for starting em early shooting:-)
Sunday morning was a little scary for me as the match director, because the winds didn’t seem to want to get blowing as match time approached… but since I knew a lot of folks had to travel that afternoon, we got started on time anyway. Fortunately, the wind got going soon into the match and was up to its tricky ways for most of the shooters.
But, Jim Whittlesey in open class shot a super score day two, with a 50/52 to easily win open class and jump to overall high score with a 95/104. Randy Ebersole in WFTF PCP, was only a point behind for overall high score with a 94/104 and his great score of 48/52 on Sunday, earned a narrow victory over Riz with a 92/104 in WFTF PCP. Scott Hull’s 47 on Saturday insured his win in Hunter class with another 92/104, and Scott Schneider was second with 89/104.
Larry Durham shot his newly designed USFT 12fpe AAFTA legal pistol, in Free Style Rifle class with a scope installed just before match time, but he still shot an amazing 78/104 on the rifle course! We’ve got three of these prototype USFT pistols now and they are super accurate and easy to shoot.
Most competitors in PCP class shot scores in the mid 40’s each day, so for Cameron K. to shoot a 44/52 and Jacob S shooting a 40/52 on Sunday in Piston class was some really great shooting from the Piston class. Jessica with a 38/52 and Bob with 35/52 also shot great scores in Piston Sunday. But Jacob held on to overall high score for combined Piston class with a 76/104, with Cameron’s great Sunday score insuring his victory in WFTF Piston class with a 72/104.
The matches went very well, all the prep work we put in paid off with only one target needing to be replaced in the three days of shooting. There were no protests over the three days as well. Our little crew worked their butts off for many weeks before the matches, but that’s what it takes to make it all happen the way we all want… Chris Lovitt, Jacob Sumner, and Randy Ebersole… Thanks guys, you’re a great team to work with... and shoot with! And Thanks also to my sister Laurie and my wife Christine, for all the cooking and cleaning they do for us each year! Hosting a match is a great labor of Love from many people. It’s certainly not a profit making ventureJ
Thanks also to all the competitors who traveled so far to make the contest. I know how much it takes to leave home/work and travel to play our addicting shooting gameJ
Here are the scores and equipment if the competitor gave us the info, hopefully competitors will fill in if they want to share with the world their secrets:

Tough course when you get some breeze packing up against the tree line. Wind does some weird shit in among the trees and that had better have you paying attention !
Thanks to all involved in the prep & set up, meals and the match in general ... Another successful Oregon State / Gran Prix in-da-books.

Ditto what Scott said. Just a tremendous amount of work by your team, it was really nice to have the clubhouse as the gathering place. Outstanding match! The food was fantastic, please tell Lorrie how much we appreciate all the work she does. Just a great weekend!

That looks like a great place to shoot. Those pistol competitors look serious. I may have to see if I can add this to my modest schedule for next year. Great shooting all!

Ray, I think you'd really enjoy shooting in Ashland. It's REAL field target, for sure ... beautiful forests, tricky winds, interesting uphill / downhill angles and challenging target placements on all their courses.
As for the competitors looking serious ... ehhh ... I dunno. These are some very comical cosmonauts!

Sorry about the wait. Here is Day two rifle,
