The second Saturday of November was our State Match and memorial to Robert Shimizu, we saw sixteen shooters come out to compete, and Roz showed up to meet and greet. We had an excellent showing from Airgunning Atlanta, Mr. Robert Crocker came over from South Carolina, it was really nice to see the man and the legend again, I hope we get to see him at Baton Rouge next March! Mike came from Indiana, Stylie and Robert Ray made the trek taking hours to drive, and of course Bill, who not only traveled from Birmingham, but was the shooter that showed up for almost all the matches I held this year, it warmed my heart to see all who traveled a long time, I really hope you enjoyed the day.
The weather was amazing for November, blue skies and warm temperatures in the 70's and some gusty winds made for a great match. Brad, as usual, made it out early, checked and cleared the course as needed, and even brought out his giant field targets to add more spice to the day. Brad also designed the awards, he is such a huge help, I really appreciate everything he does, thanks Brad!
At the awards, I spoke about Robert Shimizu, who we lost a few months ago. He did so much for the airgun community, one of the founders of AAFTA, and perhaps the nicest human I have ever met in my life, mere words are inadequate to express my feelings, if you met him, you were blessed, he made my life better in so many ways, he will be sorely missed. He had planned on being at the match, but passed unexpectedly, and the world is a little less for the loss. I hope he is now spending time with Rodney Boyce, Roy Pilz, Bruce Perathaner, and of course Jack and Terry Kirkendoll, and laughing a LOT.
As usual at a match, we had mechanical problems with guns, scopes and zero shifts. and I had problems with the "loose nut behind the trigger", my rifle functioned flawlessly, but not me, it was not my day, and the forced positions cost me big time. Danny Ayers on the other hand, DIDN'T have a bad day, and in fact shot the highest score of the day, pretty darn good for a course with a 37 Troyer factor. Yes, Danny won the big red hat, and won it very well, congratulations Mr. Tennessee State Champion!
The season has now come to the end, as I type this two days after the match, the temperature has dropped to 24F and snowing, so basically 50 degrees colder!! We will start the matches next spring, unless we have amazing weather, so keep an eye on your email!!
I wish you all a great Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years, see you in the Spring?
God Bless

Great report, great shooting, dedicated shooters driving those distances, and heart wrenching to hear of the passing of Robert. He will be missed.
