How good ARE you? Wanna pit your airgun against some good shooters in shoulder to shoulder competition? Do you have a .177, .20, or .22 cal airgun? So get ready to bring your game to our Temecula long range (over 100 meters) match scheduled for this coming March 31 (5 th Sunday of March, 2019). This match is NOT benchrest, being fired off the hand, which can be supported off a low stone wall, or even kneeling or standing if you like. A series of shots to be fired at banks of reactive targets in timed relays will determine your skills and maybe net you lot of cash (a large percentage of the entry fees will go toward cash prizes for the top shooters). I'll post an entry form soon, and will accept a limited number of entries, with a cutoff date around March 15. Limit will probably be around 28 contestants. It's a one day event, but there is space for some folks to arrive the day before and camp here. Entry fee will be $75.00 if received in advance, or $90.00 the morning of the shoot. Today I tried a .177 barrel in my rifle insteada the Benchmark .22 it had an it seemed just as good at 115yds across the canyon. It WAS shooting way too fast, at 1100fps/10.3gr, but I'm gonna try some heavier pellets later. I have a couple more barrels in the mail now that are said to be more compatible to JSB pellets than my ancient HW tube, so I've got new things to play with soon.
For now, I only test when its a bit windy, since its more "real world" for the upcoming long range shoot.
Don't worry about me "practicing" with different rigs, as even if I did do ok in the upcoming match, I'll not accept any awards or prize money, since it IS my event, right?
I have now found even my .177 Field Target rifle (barely 18fpe) can be a contender at the (probable) 114yard distance! But I will likely shoot my new .22 Umarex Gauntlet ($229 delivered) just to shot an expensive rig isn't really required to be reasonably competitive! I will fit it with a 16X mildot scope of dubious vintage and see what we can see!
BTW, only 14 more days to get entry fee in before late charges. There are still some spots left, but well over half are spoken for.
We filled the quota of 28 contestants, no more entry spots left. Due to space constraints on my West facing patio, I limited squads to four at time, which pretty much tends dictate the length of the event.
Weather forecast looks nice, no rain, and maybe even high 70's! Might have a bit more wind, which REALLY makes a pellet drift at over 100 meters.
Going to be a truly fun event for sure! No trophies, but there will be a lot of cash going out, as I'm giving back MOST of the entry fees in prizes for the top five contestants. Being a new event, ALL the top scores will be records.
