8-11-24 Benchrest
Sunday saw another eventful installment in the Summer Swelter Benchrest Series at DeSoto Gun Club. Today's 25 meter event brought out six participatants. Temperatures started in the low 80’s but rose to 88 F with 90% humidity by the end of the match. Although winds were light – mostly 1-2 mph with a few gusts to 5 mph – they were highly variable, swinging between 9 o’clock and 2 o’clock. Some shooters adjusted for wind on each shot. Others waited for just the right conditions. All competitors shot “heavy rifle” class per USARB guidelines.
Scores were high, and competition was fierce but friendly. Eight target cards (out of a total of 18 for the 6 shooters) scored 248 or higher ! Just 4 points separated first and fourth place. Chip W. – our event Top Gun – shot his first ever 250-point Perfect Card. Chip’s overall 745 score edged out second place Dennis D. by just one point. Dennis took the X-Prize scoring 43 bulls.
