Air Gun Shooters,
The February 24, 2018 match was the fifth of six CCR&P Indoor Air Rifle Benchrest Matches of the 2017-18 season. The match went smoothly with sixteen air gunners making the trip through the snow and up the hill, which had some slick spots, to the range. The indoor range temperature started out at 36 degrees at 9:00 a.m. and at match end was around 42 degrees.
We had goodies. Carole and Dave Brown came with brownies, cookies and hot beverages. Thank you.
Before the Match started Tim Wilson presented with a “Mini Spring” Award for being the Top Springer at the December 2017 match with a score of 990-43x. Tim was given the “Super Spring” to have on his bench to show that he was the Top Springer at the last match where the award was given.
Then Ron Price was presented with a “Mini Cuspidor’ Award for winning the January 2017 match with a record score of 1,000-87x. Ron was given the “Golden Cuspidor” to sit on his bench during the match to show that he was last month’s winner.
We were fortunate to have scoring during the match by John Mickel and Mike Hadley with Carole Brown recording the scores. Marvelous job everyone. (Rumor has it that Carole had to use a whip or maybe just a ruler to keep John and Mike focused on scoring.)
Sue Vogel shot her best score with a nice 993-47x. Nice going.
There was a triple tie score and some close scores between shooters. There were seven scores of over 990s. That is 44% of the shooters that finish and/or turned in targets. When scores are tied the placement/ranking is decided by “x” count.
There were 16 perfect 250 out of 250 scores shot at the match by six different shooters. They were shot by Ron Yatso, Ron Price, Dave Zinski, John Parrish, John Calhoun, and Steve Parks. Excellent shooting.
There was a three way tie for Match Winner between Ron Yatso, Ron Price and Dave Zinski who all shot a 1,000. The ‘x’ count decided the winner. Ron Yatso had 83x to Ron Price’s 76x and Dave’s 73x making Ron Yatso the Match Winner with Ron Price being First Place PCP and Dave Second Place PCP. Third Place PCP went to John Parrish who shot a 996-73x
In the Springer Class Tim Wilson took First Place Springer with a 983-48x. Second Place Springer went to Harvey Gertson with a 969-36x. Third Place Springer went to Peter Lichtblau with a 914-19x.
Shooters are reminded to be courteous when other shooters are still shooting. This match has become very competitive. If shooters need to have a conversation while others are still shooting they should go to another area to talk. An occasional quiet comment seems alright while others are still shooting. I shoot in .22 LR benchrest matches where the rules are strict. See IR 50/50 rules below:
IR 50/50 Rules.
SPORTSMANSHIP
Rangemasters are responsible for maintaining Sportsmanship during matches. Competitors should bring infractions to the Rangemasters attention for them to deal with. Rangemasters are to warn offenders of their activities. If the behavior continues the Rangemaster may disqualify the offending shooter. Inappropriate behavior may result in suspension from IR50/50 for a period of one year to life. Examples of inappropriate behavior are:
• Excessively loud talking or other activities that distract other shooters.
• Confrontational situations with other competitors or range personnel.
• Walking directly behind competitors while they are still shooting.
• Excessive time spent leaving a bench while other competitors are still shooting.
• Returning to a bench to retrieve equipment while other competitors are still shooting.
Equipment:
Ron Yatso shot a RAW BM 500 Heavy with JSB monster pellets at 805 fps. Ron Price used a Thomas with JSB pellets at 800 fps. Dave Zinski used a Royal 400 FX with JSB 10.34 gr. pellets at 572 fps. John Parrish shot a Thomas with JSB pellets.
Tim Wilson shot a FWB 300S using Qiang Yuan 8.2 gr. pellets at 583 fps. Harvey Gertson shot an Anschutz LG380 using JSB RS 7.33 gr. pellets at 585 fps. Peter Lichtblau shot an FWB 300SU using RWS Superdome 8.3 gr. pellets at unknown fps.
Thank you shooters for coming to the Indoor Match.
The next Indoor Air Rifle Benchrest Match will be on March 24, 2018 (4th Saturday). Ron Yatso will be the “Golden Cuspidor” holder at this match. Tim Wilson will be the holder of the “Super Spring” at this match.
See you next month.
