I am into long range Benchrest shooting. I have been contemplating seriously on using bullets mainly due to the superiority of the bullet over the diabolo form factor for serious precision long range.

Years ago, someone was experimenting on cast bullets, with tethered pcps for benchrest work. I can not do that.

Is JSB making good bullets yet? Do we have to change twist rates in accordance with the different projectiles used? Which barrels are excellent for airgun bullets?

Not sure 'best' and 'affordable' go well together with much of anything...ha.  Affordable is subjective anyway.

If you are serious about long range benchrest, your best option is to cast your own.  Otherwise you will find yourself spending a ton to find the best bullet for your particular barrel.

I have seen barrels of the same make/everything prefer different bullets or pellets depending on many factors so to say that x barrel or x gun will always shoot x slug well is just not feasible.

A few years ago, I remember we had a guy here ... Chuck was his name if I remember correctly, who cast his own slugs.

At this point in time, I think you are right about casting my own... but that is just not doable with me. I actually tried with primitive methods.

Maybe someday, perhaps when I am long gone, there will be commercially available cast bullets for airguns.

For now, my best long range projectile for airguns is the JSB.

Well, steeldreams,

by now you've probably seen the amazing variety of bullets ("slugs") offered for airguns — and some at very reasonable prices (5-6 cents by Nielsen Specialty Ammo, and H&N and JSB only a few cents more).

I just stumbled upon this thread — tucked away in a forum I usually don't frequent — but for what it's worth....:

Here is a Slug Table:

?12 manufacturers shipping to the US, of which 7 are selling/shipping worldwide

?379 variations (weight, diameter, shape) available to US customers, 51 of these worldwide

?Prices as low as 5 or 6 cents by NSA (with 35x variations), or 7-8c (H&N: 10x; JSB: 3x).

?Diameters: usually only .217 and .218, however NSA offers 5 different diameters, so shooters can fit the slug to their barrels

?Weights from as low as 17.5gr (NSA) and 15gr (Griffin) and as high as 40/44gr (VK, Griffin) and 55gr (MHP)

Note: This Slug Table is for .22cal, but other calibers available are indicated for each manufacturer, with links.
