What would cause a "misfire" in a springer?

The spring released when the trigger was pulled but, the shot cycle sounded a little off (like a squib load) and the pellet didn't move... this happened twice out of about 150 shots today, I re-cocked it and shot the pellet that was still there as if nothing was wrong.

What gun model…age?

Busted spring bad seal poor lube …going to have to open that one up I think.

San Rafael R7.... another one that will ne in good shape when I sell it for less then i bought it for... doh Yeah, probably a broken mainspring...

Let the leather piston seal soak up some chamber oil. Probably too dry.

Never new even the oldest R7 would be fitted with a leather seal. Learn something new every day.

I did have that same problem on an old leather sealed RWS 34 many years ago. Didn't understand the problem 'til I tore it down. Seal was dry as a popcorn fart. I also found the mainspring lube dried out and "caked". The gun was brand new, or at least I was the first owner. Maybe it sat on a shelf for quite a while...pre internet years LOL

I also vote for adding chamber oil and letting it sit. Most likely the easy fix.
