It runs good and pumps to 3200 psi.  I wish it would do 4500 psi as my PCP.s all need 3000 psi.  I want something to fill CF tanks.  The guy is asking $600.00.  Advice would be appreciated.

It’s factory set for appx 3200 psi, can be bumped up to a max of 5000 psi.

That is what I paid for one off a sail boat about 10 yrs ago. It lasted me about 6 or 7 years then needed an expensive rebuild, so I replaced it with one that would go 4500 psi. I used the 3200 psi by "cascading" several scuba tanks.

Seems like a good price ,if it runs fine, and doesn't need a rebuild .

I didn't know it could be bumped up that much.  I will look into that.

There is a pop off valve on top of the filter tower that can be set to any pressure up to 5,000 psi.

The limiting factor for that compressor looks like it would be the filtration system.  Neither that separator nor the filter housing are Bauer so you may want to replace both.  Just looking at it in the picture, I can see about a grand in upgrades needed.

However, it is WELL worth $600 if it runs.

I'd also add that IF the unit functions properly, that is an awesome price. Problem is, IF.  Will the seller offer a warranty?  If so, go for it!
I'd want to see it first-hand if I were purchasing it.   Is it near you?

Sorry to bring this thread back up but I looked at this compressor again

Mako
Compresser

and it is not a Bauer.  It is a Mako.  Is this as good as a Bauer and could it be bumped up to 4500 psi?

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Joe.  I had a computer crash, forgot my password and couldn't post here for a while.  This compressor is about 5 miles from me.  We fired it up and it runs good and pumps up to 3200 psi.  I might be able to get it even cheaper.

I am hoping I can safely bump it to 4500 psi.  I told him I would let him know soon if I want it.  My fire department friend passed away and I might have a problem getting  my tanks filled there, I haven't ask them yet.

I am thinking I need to buy this.

Old Mako compressors used Bauer pumps so you are OK there for parts.  And the K14 is capable of pumping up to 5000 psi but was regularly configured to run lower and slower for longevity ... reduced wear and tear.  Sounds like a fun project compressor.

Now I am confused.  I emailed this company and they said 4500 psi...not okay for this compressor.

Gere is the reply I got;

I would not suggest going any higher than the 3200 PSI that this unit was designed for.
That is a very old unit, and some of the parts are clearly marked for the lower pressure.
We still have some inventory of parts for this unit, as well as some in other dealers, but most items are no longer being produced for this model.
Please let me know if we can help.
Thank you,

Best Regards,

Go by Porter's recommendation.  He is probably the best authority on Bauer compressors in the US.
