I recent post about the old HyScore pistols got me to dig out my "collection". Here they are. All are in shooting condition.
Model 800 in both .177 and .22. Model 802 in .177. Model 815 (Diana Model 5) in .177. Model 816 (Diana Model 6) in .177.
Nice collection there Doug !
I've been having fun with my old .22 802 after I figured out how to oil it.
Seems to shoot high... trying some different pellets that I have handy... might just be my shooting technique needs to be improved... maybe just need to shoot further away, but I would think I could get it to group better and 18-25 feet.
The RWS Hobbies, and old blue tin Eley Wasps seem to shoot best, the Wasps more so.
Doug... I came across this excerpt from the book "Air-Guns & Air-Pistols" by L. Wesley (revised by GV Cardew) that I scanned and attached.
In it it says that the piston uses a "neoprene air seal"--"completely eliminating the use of leather washers and metal piston rings".
Do you know the validity of this ?
I was under the impression that a "metal piston ring (or rings)" were used on the Hy-Score Target Air Pistols from what I was told years back when I first acquired my 802 air pistol.
I recently added a few drops of non-detergent 30W oil that brought the pistol back to life and shooting strong.
From a Pyramyd Air blog about the pistols: "The first pistols used automotive-type piston rings. When these proved too unreliable, an O-ring was substituted. "
Doug... so I wonder what mine has... probably identifiable by serial numbers.
Do you know what yours have ?
What's more durable over time ?
Very curious !
