Nice acquisition, Mike!

Like you, I usually end up having Mr. Chippis to blame whenever I buy a new gun. ?

Just when I thought  there  were no more rifles  to buy  that I would want  in one week I bought three,  the hw 55M was  one of  them and at my door in two days boxed up bomb proof

I was  just telling John I have to many that dont get shot ,  There's a lot of nice guns I have , I could do with out but I already know there's no letting  go of this hw  55 M

I will always vote for the HW 55! One of the great all-round air rifles of all time and a personal favorite. I confess to eyeing that one while it was online - a very nice example.

IMHO you may be underrating it a bit; in my experience, HW’s don’t have show-quality wood as often as the contemporary Walther models did, and this M is really pretty. I also like the stocks with the large rectangular areas of checkering, not only bigger but more finely done than others with the “W” pattern. You’d buy the HW 55M for looks alone, its many other virtues are just icing on the cake... ?

One of the online pics showed the serial, I looked it up - 1973-ish if I’m remembering correctly.

Congrats on a great get!

A week before I spotted this one I saw one on gunbroker  in an amazing figured stock that went for over 800.

I think I had  one when I first got  back into airguns as a adult I was buying air rifles I knew nothing about, I do remember thinking  that  the  old ones I bought were  heavy and clunky feeling and resold  them, had a R 8 - I did the same

This gun feels sweet  to me, everything about  it  oozes quality, Like a vintage  corvette
