My biggest b!tch with the TR5 (IZH 61 clone) has always been that there is no way to remove a spent magazine without re-cocking the gun. So I looked at both the TR5 and IZH 61 side-by-side, and found a simple fix that allows me to release the bolt probe and remove the spent magazine without re-cocking the gun, like you can do on the izzy.  It involves some semi-precise dremel work, but you don't have to dis-assemble anything.  If anyone's interested, I can put up some pictures.

Yes, please.

I have a IZH 61 that I converted to PCP and at the Hickory show, I picked up a steel receiver IZH 61 that I intend to leave stock.

Hi Rob,

This mod is for the TR5 clone only. No need to do it to a real Izzy, as they allow you to release the bolt probe without cocking the gun.

BTW, I have a brother who lives and works in Russia, and I am researching how to get an IZH MP555K sent to me.  I'll keep you posted.

ah... yes... you are correct, of course.

I picked up the kit off of Etsy, I think.  After going around the world with customs and such, it finally got here.  Really transformed the gun and I'm  happy with it.  Was a bit bummed that I didnt have the Izy as a springer any more, but then found one at the show so all is right in the world now.

Everyone should have an IZH 60/61 springer!  I've owned and (stupidly) sold a few over the years. I currently have a steel-receiver 61, and the aforementioned TR5 clone, which is kinda neat, but a distant second.

Still looking for a steel-receiver 60.

Latest exchange rates put the MP555K at 15,000 rubles, which is less than $300. Just gotta figure out how to get one out of Russia.

@jiminpgh

IIRC your brother is Germany based? If so he could ask kotte-zeller if they would be amenable to bringing one/100 in.

Hey Boss,

You are correct, my brother has a legal residence in Germany, hence the possibility of getting one out of Russia. He "could" ship from Russia to Germany, then Germany to USA.

Not really interested in becoming an importer, I just want one. Besides, I can barely finance a single purchase, let alone a lot of 100. However, with the right financial backing.....?

Sorry, this post was supposed to be about the TR5, and how you can make it work like an IZH.

Load and cock the 5th pellet in the mag. DO NOT SHOOT IT.

then open the cocking arm, remove the mag and close the arm again. Shoot as normal........

Brilliant!  I can see how that would work.  It's just that the simple bolt release on the IZH is so much easier and more intuitive. My TR5 now has the same capability.

I've also done a simple trick to give me a visual clue when I've taken the last shot, so as to avoid dry firing, on both the TR5 and the IZH.  I'll put up some pictures this weekend.

So tell me Dan, how are you liking your TR5?  Have you done anything to it, or is it still stock?

I have a long list of things to do to the TR5....b ut itll have to wait until my retina repair efforts have played out....

Before I got injured though,.... the gun is great handling, a "nice" size and heft. But its "shocky" to shoot. I dont remember what Ihad done to it, but it wasnt much.  Smooth lube tune will help it I think. I did put some foam on the cheek peice, that helps. Adjusting the trigger pull helped my accuracy, but IMO the gun has some inherent accurcy issues. I may or may not revise that opinion after Ive some time to do some other stuff to it

Had some tube, CF vinyl wrap, drew up then printed the parts for a fat LDC for it. did take some snap outta the report.

So this is how you make the bolt probe releasable on a TR5.

TR504

Remove what's outlined, with  a dremel cutoff wheel. (Sorry, I should have taken a before picture.)

TR501

TR502

TR503
