I'm wondering how many of you out there have had bad experiences with the objective end scope flip up caps on Sightron scoupes?

Mine has failed (spring is shot) and it's really hard to find a replacement that's not from the OEM. I've found someone who makes really good ones but doesn't make them in the 69mm Ø size that the scope is.

They're called MK Machining and they're wondering how many people would be interested in having them make a size that's compatible with the Sightron 10-50x 60 SIII scope. If there's enough of us they'll make and stock them.

Please let me know what you all think.

Kind regards,

Chris

The pin fell out of one cap recently, it lost tension and, ironically, refused to stay open.

The spring uses the same design as an AR dust cover, it was easy to re-tension and replace the pin.

Consider inspecting other caps (don't we all have a shoebox of unused caps?) to see if you can find an acceptable replacement.

Looks like Butler Creek max out at 65.4 mm. Several mm shy of what the original poster needs.

Good lookin.

I have a couple oddball Chy-na scopes bought for the crappy scopes test thread (when it cools off outside) which arrived without caps, or the wrong size caps, or trashcaps, and found myself digging through that shoe box of caps. I don't have the right size.

Soft bodied scope caps can be stretched, so long as the cover consists of 2 materials. The cap with it's locking ring and hinge are HDPE, and a softer piece of rubber (elastopolymer) which fits the objective AND stretches over the HDPE locking-ring.  So far, stretching the body has not caused the hard section to pop out, and even if it did, a dab of shoe glue would make it 1000% permanent.

Happy to report, the stretched version is less likely to get twisted round-on stiff-to-turn front-AO scopes.

ϞϞ૮(๑⚈ ․̫ ⚈๑)ა but I digress... here is your link... select 69.420mm in the dropdown menu

I pay the same for amzn business as we were for prime, but I never know what price or delivery other people see. This amzn is coming from Chy-na, so you might be able to find it cheaper or faster on Ebay, maybe Ali, if you copy exactly the desc "25.5-69mm" which is pretty damn specific for a ChyningLish speaker.

And thar she be for a couple bucks less AND in Cali USA!

FFS man. Look at me with the FailWin 🤣 golly I'm dumb sometimes 🤣

1. Pay to tool them up yourself, because it's you.

2. It's you, so you get to keep the tooling.

3. Make a single cap to shill along with a brand specific complaint about a generic accessory.

4. ???

5. Profit!

I didn't even catch the post count, just went to re-read the op and it hit me 🤣

@tx200cbs Why don't you go make parts for Sarco or something? Wait, I buy from Sarco.

Why don't you make parts for AKs? Someone has been bugging me to make a Krink dust cover hinge for months, the actual part is unobtanium.

Sir, the acceptable topics in this thread are AK74su dustcover hinges, and the owner or employee of MK Machining bucking for free advertising. But, there is always room for Ranger Bands 🤣

Hi there, Tony from MkMachining. I wanted to clear the air and touch on a few things. The OP is not affiliated with MKM, but rather someone who is looking get some higher end caps for his Sightron. We do not have a current cap model large enough to accommodate his specific optic so I offered to make him a custom cap if he would pay the design fee. I didn't think $75 was a huge number for a one off part. (if you are in the manufacturing world, you may understand that is a really low entry cost for a one off custom part $75 shipped to his door. Try to make an injection mold or tool up for anywhere near that price).

From our conversation, he seems to be serious in his competition and has been doing it for awhile, so I asked him to see if there is any interest in his local group of competitors to see if it is worth it to tool up and come out with a new model and waive his custom design fee for his field work. However, I did not know that he would be posting this request to forums that he has not been involved with in prior.

I would not mind making this product, but it seems pretty clear that there is not enough interest at this time.

Once again, TX200CBS is not affiliated MKM, nor can we take claim for his request/responses on an internet forum.

More than a handful of our customers have used ranger bands to get one of our products to fit and I must say, it does work out well most of the time.
