Only used fx hand pumps for last several years. Think I'll look into buying a tank soon. I have 3 fx rifles, and a Prod. When I shoot, mainly in the backyard, spinners or killing starlings off the suet. I dont shoot many rounds. And then I go top off the rifle with air. So wanting advice on tank size, and who to buy from. Don't need a portable one, but one big enough I'm not having to go fill it every month. Appreciate any advice.
You don't want a scuba tank! Most scuba tanks are only 3000 to 3300 psi, and all of your guns are 2900 to 3000+ psi fill guns. If you get a scuba tank, you'll be getting less than full fills on your guns right from the start. I would say that you need a 4500 psi SCBA tank, at least a 45 minute size. You can get used ones with 2-3 years left on them for a couple hundred $. You need a DOT certified tank to be able to get anyone to fill it for you. The less expensive Acecare type tanks that you will find on Ebay are CE certified (not DOT) and can't be filled or tested commercially in the US. Your other option would be to buy a small compressor. I have a Nomad II that works well for me. If you go compressor, make sure that you have proper desiccant on the output.
@Doug-wall
Thank u Doug. Good info.
Think I'll buy a new 1.
Dont want to mess with another one couple yrs down the road.
I remember on the old yellow forum there was a guy named Joe Br...... something. He exclusively sold air tanks. I'll Google him.
you have to have regular SCUBA tanks hydro tested every 5 years by a licensed SCUBA center.
i stopped using my SCUBA tank after purchasing a compressor.
yes it's true, you will not get as many 3000 psi fills from your 3000 psi tank. i filled my marauder to 2500-2900 psi. most PCP use 3000 psi, and more, for MORE shots per fill not more power.
