I recently bought a Beeman RX1 Santa Rosa vintage. It is in excellent condition all around (but it has a LH stock) the PO had it depressurized to 12 ft/lbs. I pumped it up to 20 ft/lbs. and it shot accurate, but acted like an untuned springer! Twangy and very noisy!!

This morning I took it apart and investigated. The internals we not worn, but full of factory lube that had turned black. I found that the inertia piston O rings were hard as a rock and cracked. Replaced those, added a little bit of motor oil in the piston tube and replaced the two seals for the ram tube and re-pressured it. I lubed the external parts (piston seal, piston, cocking slot...) the same as a spring gun before I installed it.

Shot 10 CP 14.3 pellets to settle it in and get the small amount of moly burnt off. Fifteen shots with the same pellets at 800 fps average and SD of 7. It now shoots like a gas ram should, straight recoil and no noise!

I only think about taking pictures afterwards, but these are very easy guns to repair.

Jim,

Several years back, a person had an old Beeman RX up for sale on another site. I took a chance and bought it. He was honest, stating in the ad that it wouldn't stay pressurized, and I'd rebuilt a couple of ram guns before, so I thought I'd give it a try. I bought a seal kit from an outfit overseas and took it apart, cleaned it up internally, rebuilt and adjusted the trigger assembly, re-lubed, installed the new seals, including the breech and piston seals, then charged her up and she has held pressure since and is very accurate with the open sights . Less than $200 invested for a powerful, accurate shooter!
