Hi Airgunners! Here's my review of the "Mike Edwards Bell Target".
Hey, nice video!
The sound is good with the cord, but even 'ringier' with the zip ties. That was clever.
We're you experimenting with the hits and misses on purpose? I ask because it seemed your first shots in the first group were all dead-on hits, then your next shots were all 'precise hits' to the right. Then you repeated that exact sequence with your second 'volleys. It didn't look like an accident.
Last, this Mike Edwards isn't the same Mike E . who's well known for shooting in and winning FT matches 'somewhere north or west of Texas', is it? I ask because I tuned a couple of RWS 54's to be used in competitions for him several years back. I know he switched to using PCP's not long thereafter. I'm asking because the connection between his love for FT shooting and that particular target seems to speak of a connection that is too close to be a coincidence. Of course, I know it still could be-just wondering.
Anyway, again, nice job on the video. You could have just shown and explained the purpose of the target indoors and I would have understood, but an outdoor video with sound tells me a lot more. So, too, with the obvious difference in sound when you switched to zip ties, The ring with the latter needs to be heard outdoors to be truly appreciated.
Thanks Ed!
Yea, I was hitting/missing on purpose so you can (hopefully) hear the difference.
Mike has a good idea for a bell target with a simple design. Probably not the same Mike E you spoke of however- This Mike Edwards now lives in North Carolina, originally from South Africa.
Happy shooting!
Ha! I wish!
Another thing to try would be a piece of wire to suspend the bell.
I wonder how it sounds with a 12lb gun. Also wonder what it would sound like if the bell was longer- dangling below the housing. I'm a bit unsure what actually makes the bell sound- the pellet hitting the bell, or the bell rocking back and hitting the housing?

I know I'm really the wrong guy to answer the question, since it's not my video/test and neither do I own one of those targets. You'll get a more-accurate informed reply from phepler. But, for now, I do know what it sounds like to me...
What my ears are hearing is one, distinct, single bell tone, not several or indistinct tones as if the inner piece is rattling around in there.
In that way it reminds me of the sound of a the single tone emitted by a drummer's cowbell when struck one time by a drumstick. In other words, I don't THINK the housing is the source of the sound.
(What we need is more target shooting, videos like this one, AND A LITTLE MORE COWBELL!). (Sorry).
