I am considering PCPs this year. I need some wisdom.

I am considering Gamo Urban for following reasons; compactness and hand pump-ability. Plus it doesn't hurt that it's BSA. I also like Hatsan and Avenger.

1) Recommendation(s) for first PCP?

Air is where my real problem is... I do want a hand pump.

2) What do you recommend for good hand pump?

But I get the feeling that I may get impatient with a hand pump.

3) What would you recommend for electric pump?

Hand pumping is age/fitness level dependent. Many start this way then soon begin looking for an easier way to air up their shiny new pcp. The small compressors intended to fill the gun only tend to be problematic and fail. Possibly the best rout would begin with a good HPA tank (74 or 90 cu ft). Find a dive shop or paint ball store that will fill it to 4500 psi. With a tank in hand and knowledge of a reliable and convenient place to have it filled you can then start selecting a gun. If you find no air source within a reasonable distance you can start thinking about a compressor designed to fill a large tank. These are all things to consider before buying the gun.      Uj

Thank you for that I really appreciate the information.

Any recommendations for compressors? I don't want to depend on someone else doing me right.

Compressors are another rabbit hole. Tons of info on the web. Best to do a search here and on AGN: https://airgunwarriors.com/community/?wpfin=tag&wpfs=Compressor

Urban is a touch ugly with the bigazz  (non removably) LDC.....but it's easy to fill with a cheap-Chinese-pump. Tank is small (105cc's) which makes pump filling easier....been popular for awhile, and a good reliable PCP for me.

Do have a compressor...don't bother with it when filling the Urban. Takes longer to set the compressor up than it does to grab a pump and fill it.

Just looking at the specs, the Avenger has a few features you may value that are missing in the Gamo.

Regulated !     (Vs no Reg)

Adjustable Hammer AND Regulator

Sidelever   (Vs Bolt)

Combined Picatinny/11mm rail    (Vs 11 mm rail)

180 cc tank   (Vs 105cc)

More powerful in .22

Shrouded barrel  (Vs LDC?  Both appear to be a "3" rating on Pyramyd air so maybe not a big deal)

Ready for sling studs  (Vs   ?? or not)

6 lbs   (vs  6.7 lbs)

On the other side, the avenger is longer by 3/4 inch and it fills to 300 bar which will not be fun to pump to, although you could elect not to for a reduced shot count.   One has a thumbhole stock (Gamo) vs traditional, if that matters.   BSA accuracy is very, very good... but the avenger is getting a good review on this as well.

Just some things to think about.

John

Another source of air is a local voluntary fire department. Once you get to them a little take them cookies, donuts, coffee.

Even "free air" is just the welcome mat at the rabbit hole....can't haul the air home in a bucket or pour it into the rifle....tank and fill fittings.

Thank you for your reply.

I am looking for my first PCP.

Hoping for a hand pump friendly or small gun compressor.

Was a tank filler long ago...tanks didn't work out for me.

Pump filler for years, still am for some PCPs.

Did buy a compressor, but don't bother to get it up and running just for a little volume PCPs.

Admit, now getting too darn close to 70 and still only the 165 pounds I always have been, pumping isn't as attractive.....but it's more productive than a gym bicycle that goes no where.
