R9 Problem

Today I removed my R9 from its stock. I did not disassemble it completely, just removed the four screws necessary to remove the stock. I then applied some “tune in a tube” to the main spring and reassembled the gun. I tightened all screws firmly.

When I went to shoot it, I had to very firmly whack the muzzle brake with my hand to loosen the barrel in order in cock the gun. I have never before had to do this.

Is the a result of over tightening the two screws in the fore grip?

Only a couple things come to mind, check and see if the forend is rubbing breech block.  And flip it over and make sure the front screws aren't hitting the cocking arm.

@prairie-farmer

And make sure that there are washers under the fore end screws.

Thanks for the suggestions! Turning the gun over helps explain a lot (duh!). The screws don’t appear to be blocking anything, plenty of clearance. The fore end does not appear to be rubbing. The problem feels like the locking mechanism. In that once the initial “break” occurs, there is no unusual resistance to cocking.

Hummmm.....both my Beeman R9 and HW95 have needed a whack on the muzzle break to initially dislodge the rather strong spring loaded barrel latching detent. IMHO, this is good and if the barrel didn't need a good whack I'd be wondering about the barrel latch up.

This sounds pretty simple minded. After some google research I applied moly paste to the barrel latches. This pretty much fixed the problem. The barrel unlocks with a sharp whack with the palm of my hand. It no longer needs the bruise inducing whack.

I am finding that I am at a certain age where cocking it it not as much fun as it used to be. I am becoming much more an R7, Diana 24, PCP, or CO2 sort of guy!

i find if you have a rifle, pistol that is hard to cock and i do have those

i nice fitting leather glove on your grab hand really helps

of course if you use your strong hand for cocking and the trigger it might not be the best
