Playing with sights on my Diana Chaser

Will the chasers bolt handle fit in a crosmans 22xx bolt?

Jim I'm lazy can you point to the barrel band at PA, it is an interesting setup the front sight on the rifle barrel could be also a possibility+

I can see that mount to be modified with a little cutting and adding, very interesting my imagination runs wild or something like that

Took the shoulder stock off my scoped .177 Chaser and put it on this .22.  With the Williams peep and an aperture front sight, its like a zero-power scope.  I like it a lot.  Need to order another shoulder stock.

Gotta luv those carbine-rigs. They are so handy and easy to tote around. Makes for a nice ‘deer camp’ plinker.

Irons are pretty trouble free too, keep mine w/open sights

Jim the cheek piece where is that from and do you have a 10mm to 1/2-20 adapter on it and if so where was that sourced and is the front sight mount aluminum   I know too many questions

I was thinking that if you made a tube threaded in 10mm-1.0 and cut the mount in half you could mount the sight two or three inch forward of where it is and if the material was just right thread the outside in 1/2-20    just thinking

Front barrel band is aluminum, with 11mm grooves on top, and a threaded hole in the square lump on the bottom.  I may screw a small piece of weaver rail to it, so I can move my flashlight mount back and forth from the .177 Chaser.  The barrel band that comes with the pistol/rifle combo has a short weaver rail on the bottom.

I made the ldc from some copper tubing, hair curlers, washers and springs, and a M10-1.00 fine pitch nut.  It's not as efficient as the factory .177 moderator, but it does soften the bark quite a bit.  The factory .177 moderator is remarkably effective.  If I could buy the factory .22 rifle barrel with moderator, I would.

Nice! I just ordered me one in 22. I like what you did with the sights, but I'd really like to take advantage of the full sight radius. I don't suppose adjustable elevation is a big deal at the distances we're talking about for this gun - I might put an AR flip up peep on it.

so ever sense this post started i have been wondering how the best to do it and mind you with cost set aside 

first off the front sight would have to be removed or made round for looks and it might be in the way 

so how long a sight radius do you what and how are you going to do it 

first of i would use the barrel thread protector as your starting point and add some tubing like this------thread protector is .59o+-OD

so now you have to make the protector fit inside the tubing and so you buy and 10mm x 1.0 bolt and use have the way to do that

now you need a globe mount for the new tubing and see that the tubing is .750 OD you get one of these

and with that you could make any sight radius you what 

so is it cheap well no you haven't bought the sight yet but it could be done with only a few tools and you would get something fairly custom 

but is it worth it maybe, yes, no 

well this post isn't about is it worth it, it was about how it could be done 

right now i have made up weaver-picatinny mount bridge between the front breech area to a Stormrider barrel band like what was used above 

so you have 5.5 inch of mount over the barrel and below the sights view and it can be done with only hand tools 

and would be easier with the Chase barrel band because the top of it is dead nuts the same height as the breech and the Stormrider is 1.65mm taller or a 1/16 inch so a shim was made

the back was filed flat, not quite done but it will work 

oh i mount the back in the center hole after mounting the barrel and removing the indexing grub screw, a 4mm x .7 x 8mm screw will be needed so it doesn't bottom out and the same in the front and they were countersunk screws

I was sort of thinking about modifying a barrel band to only include the barrel grabber and just grind off the CO2 tube grabber with an angle grinder/file/sand it down, and using a pair of flip-up sights. I spent a bit of time scratching my head and googling trying to find an click adjustable elevation rear sight then finally decided it probably wasn't worth the effort - I'm mostly wanting this gun for introducing my son to shooting (and taking out the occasional tin can or pest myself), and my list was basically 1) left hand friendly, 2) peep sights, 3) crisp trigger (preferably two stage), and 4) quiet. I'm not a lefty but my son is, and he's currently insists on doing even things left handers traditionally do right handed (like shake hands and saluting the flag) left handed.

I'm about to forget about full barrel length sight radius idea and just stick a post on the barrel band - it will still allow me to teach front sight focus, and with a peep I don't need to worry about him focusing on the wrong end of the sights.

FYI, this gun will be on my table at Findlay.

Thanks. A bit far for me (NC).  Do you have a pic of the top/mounting? I'm looking through ebay/brownells/midway and it looks like the Williams WGRS-336 might could fit (flat bottom). But I'm having trouble figuring out from internet pics which models come with dovetail mounting (sadly, all 20mm) or which ones are screwed into holes in the receiver.

Bought the $10 barrel band from PA. This weekend I will remove the front end plastic and reverse the barrel band to give me a little more sight radius.   Just messin' around.

I recently received a FWB 124 with Williams peep similar to yours and it was cracked off looks like during shipping

, how do you fix it? The threads cracked off and I can't figure out how to extract it from the housing. Do I need to buy a new rear sight assembly? It didn't come with its factory OEM FWB rear sights.

Been scouring the internet on this one without much luck. Everybody seems to be out of all but a handful of Williams products. The Williams WGRS-336 actually looks as if it might mount and be a bit lower than the FP-AG in this thread. That could possibly work with the factory front sight. I did find the specs for its mounting holes - they're 0.5in spacing, and my crude photogrammetry attempts suggest the existing chaser holes in the back are around 0.3"

As for the front sight, the OP's globe on the barrel band definitely looks like the easiest. I combed through Brownells and midway, but the Chaser's barrel OD is just too skinny for anything they carry. I suppose a ramp could be fitted/epoxied onto the barrel, but it's so skinny I wouldn't dare try to drill and tap the barrel.

Picking up my chaser tomorrow - can't wait to try it out.

i think if your going to do it the sight radius needs to be increased, let use a contender or encore pistol barrel as a standard 14 to 15 inches total

now i just emailed PA about chaser parts and they don't have them yet, just a note

so i would knock off the front sight, will it come off undamaged, unknown to me 

now with that off you can extend the sight radius but how, well with tubing, .500 inch OD and something in the .370 ID 

the ID at .370 is small enough to thread in 10mm - 1.0 and easy enough to enlarge for the front sight step whatever that is

now the .500 inch is to large for the barrel band which is at around 12mm + or -  so you would need to take off 0.7mm in diameter or .0.35mm in radius and that is very easy

you would need some tools but this project could be done by the backyard mechanic

you can see i have looked down this rabbit hole and i'm interested in trying it and the only thing that is stopping me is the knowledge that i can get a new front sight, if i have to destroy the one that is on it now 

the downside for someone reading this is the drills and taps and bit and piece, i for one have all i need but that just me 

so this is my idea and to me it seem sound 

also the Chaser barrel band dovetail is 1.65 + or - lower then the Stormrider barrel band when you go to cut up the band for the mount

Finally picked it up today. The rifle and pistol sight blades appear to have a significant height difference - it might be just random settings, but it looks as if they'd shoot to two very different POA . I'll make a rubbing and scan it to get my dovetail screw spacings. I do have a 3D printer, but it's tore apart right now and I'm waiting on some part, still have a learning curve before I get to usable parts in a robust material (PETG or Nylon).  I might consider going that way - Williams is backordered until mid May from what Brownells and Midway are telling me.

After some fiddling and head scratching I think the best solution for a peep is to modify the pistol sight blade. That'd be a couple dollar part, drift out the elevation hinge pin, swap in new peep blade. After I popped the barrel band blade off (nice of them to give you a spare), the rear pistol blade is close enough to function as a half peep. I haven't shot it like this yet, but we'll see if the weather cooperates tomorrow.
