I have always preferred shooting with them but these 71 plus year old peepers, even with prescription glasses just doesn't cut it anymore. The sight picture is just too darn fuzzy. I've had scopes on three of my springers for a few years now but I really enjoyed the ones without the optics more. I just put a tactical red dot on my Diana model 26 and still have a Williams aperture on my HW50s. That one I'm going to stay with longer. This getting old crap really bites... but I guess it's better than the alternative.
Okay, I feel better 🙂 thanks for listening
yes at 73 i know all about what you are going through
a reflex sight could work also, and they are very inexpensive but for me the red dot and reflex sights are imprecise but better then nothing
@napi I'm only a couple years behind ya.
For what it's worth - while breech-mounted notch sights went south for me many years ago, my ability to use aperture sights was fully restored by cataract surgery. I'm having great fun with peeps currently, and typically use Gehmann eyepieces with adjustable aperture and 1.5x clarifying lens.
But yeah...I'm starting to appreciate scopes, too.
Any place that sells target-shooting supplies will have them. Champions Choice in Nashville and the Canadian eBay seller Nikkonos are good, but there are many more. Note that these are for the European eyepiece thread (9.5 x 1.0mm), though they have adapters to use them in US sights (7/32 - 40 thread).
Gehmann's web site is pretty amazing (beware: has so much stuff it can make your head spin)! https://gehmann.com/en/Sighting-Equipment/
Note that many versions and accessories are made; you can add the lens, colored filters, and a polarizer to the basic adjustable iris, in any combination. For older eyes the iris and lens are a great combo:

Here is the adapter for US/UK sights. Adding this to the iris will let you use the same iris in any sight you probably own:
I'm 72 and know what you mean. I have several guns set up with tall see-thru rings or one piece see-thru mounts so I can use scope or open sights. Some guns it want work. Got a Williams peep under the scope on one gun and a Mini 14 peep mounted in the center of Weaver rail (gunsmith did that one for me) and see-thru rings on an old B3. Got an old Crosman Storm I re-built and re-finished with a GRT trigger. It's got a clamp on picatinny rail, tall see-thru rings an a C.P. 3-9x32 mildot lum scope I can also use the open sights with. Sometimes I have to use different pellets to make it work. Why ? Because I can. Fun stuff.

May I ask - what is a..."tactical" red dot sight ?
Plus, "most" red dot sights ARE of the "reflex" (as noted by another above!) design. From cheap $40 sights to more expensive $900+ sights, all reflex.
Then is the holographic like the EOTech and one or two others. The "prism" sights work very well for people with astigmatism. Kind of a cross between a scope and a red dot sight.
Mike
I'm not 100% sure about the tactical part either, it's a reflex "tactical " sight according to the packaging. You can select from several different reticle styles.
