Beeman Pell-Size in .177 and .22 and a Beeman Pell Seat

They weren't altogether silly in my case.  First, IIRC, the sizing dies came in more than one size, and I was able to buy the one I wanted.

Next, I used the combo to very-slightly reduce the size of the slightly-over-sized Eley Wasp .22 caliber pellets that my tuned Beeman R1 preferred.  The velocity and accuracy increased a little, and friction in the bore was reduced a little (the latter meant less barrel leading and less-frequent barrel cleaning).

But, you're not entirely wrong, either.  I tried the pell sizer and dies for other pellets, rifles, and calibers, and was never able to duplicate the same success I got in the above described situation.  Maybe someone else did (??).

You are correct, they can in a variety of sizes and you would swag them through the die IF they were big enough and the die was small enough. It was a fun winter thing to do, wash and lube, size and weigh, wash and lube again....when the wind and snow howled and dreams of spring rabbits and squirrels danced in your head

These were “ok” back when you couldn’t get head sized pellets outside of match pellets. Back in the day when that red die stamp number meant something on the bottom of a box of Crosman Premiers.

Now a little less so much. JSB and a number of mfgs made a lot of this useless

I don't think the British-made "Eley Wasp" pellets were available with a choice of head size, and I don't think the current British "Wasp" pellets (no "Eley" in the name) are either, so the tools could still have some application for those.  However, with many brands to choose from, you can probably find a pellet commonly-available in the USA that will work in most .22 caliber springers.  Thus, I see no need to buy your pellets from the UK.

If they included a die to first flare a skirt and then another to size the pellet it might have been really useful.

I can ask $10000 for them, doesn’t mean it sells for that. These are better anyway

These are good too. The actual “original” came with a brass knurled top. It was nicer but they do pellets pretty quick

Those Beeman Pell Sizers actually work for some guns. I have several of them in all of the calibers and all different die sizes that were in the Beeman catalogs. Bought lots of extra duplicate dies worrying they would eventually wear out back in the day.

Must have been back in the 80's IIRC...

They were relatively inexpensive... back in the day...

HA

Another pellet die, one off in .22 cal. Cut from the barrel of the Ripley it goes with. It’s “matched” to the gun.

I would not mind owning a set of the Beeman Pellet Sizers, for use and collectiblity.

I do have a couple if (Jim ?) Giles dies (.179 and .1785) with the plunger that I bought from my favorite local airgun shop many years ago--sadly no longer in business.

Here's a photo of them.
