Got this recently... can't resist a good metal target !
Anyone else ever seen one of these ?
The seller said that it was possibly "JC Higgins"... the only markings is "PAT.APL'D FOR" on the back of the middle reset target.
I cleaned all the old grime off with WD-40 and oiled the pivot points... should work great !
That would be a Crosman "DODO" target from back in the days of the 101-type guns. Apparently you knock over the two critters first, then hit the center target to reset them.

Thanks Don... good to know exactlly what it is !
Found this ad and old box online..

the DODO, Yes, I have 8 of those. They sell for $100-$200 on eBay. Sometime less, occasionaly more.
Check out this noise:
This Eagle is a $3k chunk of metal...probably worth a bit less because it's painted.
These are literally priceless. Jumping Lion and Tiger / Mangels from Coney Island. These could have been the origianls for all I know. I have never even seen pictures of one of these that was not shot flat. The detail on the lion and tiger's muscles is crazy. They sure don't make em like they used to!
@airgun-channel Wow! Those are nice !
I'm not sure I would recognize them as being targets if I came across them... although most of the time EVERYTHING looks like a potential target, especially when I see a bunch of crafty knickknacks... 😀
This is the 1st Dodo target that I have come across or even remember seeing before... going to have to figure out a good way to hang it for my indoor basement shooting... outside will be no problem, except the weather here is not very nice for shooting !
@airgun-channel
I'm curious if you are using the Dodo target indoors... if so, how are you using it ? Any photos ?
I'm looking at mounting it on a metal box with some duct seal behind it... found some lasagna pans online, that might be the right size.
I think I will be going to my local Walmart to check them out and take some measurements... then next door to Home Depot to buy some electrician Duct Seal sticks.

While out of town at a shooting event I needed to zero a gun. I'm at an Airbnb. They had a reasonable size back yard for range. I just stopped at a Home Depot and bought a bag of rubber mulch and a rubber trash bin. Dropped the bag in the trash bin and had the perfect backstop. I find the duct seal expensive and a pain to clean.
Just put your target in front of whatever mulch holder you are using.
For my indoor range, I wanted to hang it up higher for some pistol shooting... although I do need to get some of that rubber mulch to try out.
I already have a metal pan with duct seal in it... put this together years (and years) ago... I normally just clip paper targets to it..
I spent a lot of time a few years ago picking all the pellets out of it... now I find it easier just to pick out the pellets soon after shooting them... so I decided to try and use that one, instead of investing in a new one.
I made a wire hanger (made from 9/64" steel rod used in lawn signs that I salvaged for some of my kerosene lantern repair projects)... the wire bending jigs that I have came in handy.
The metal pan that I have has handle edges on the top and bottom, so the top one came in handy for hanging the wire hanger that is attached to the Dodo target hanging bracket... here's some photos...
That set up should work fine for you. Nice!
I only shoot .177 in my basement 10 meter range. The lower grey boxes are mulch style. Just lift the lid and put a new target paper in. Replace the cardboard backing as needed.
For you lead savers I made a sifter out of some wire mesh. I personally don't save lead but use it to clean the mulch box out. It's surprising how much weight will accumulate on my outdoor larger bore mulch boxes.
Are your mulch boxes metal electrical fuse boxes with openings cut into the front doors ?
I was thinking about putting together a mulch target using a cardboard box that I can set on the floor/ground (probably raised up some with a narrow cardboard box... I seem to accumulate a lot of boxes... have used coffee Keurig K-cup boxes for target boxes the past several years.. the larger 200-count box would make a nice mulch box... previously, I've just used old clothes/rags to fill them... I replace the front cardboard with flattened out empty cereal boxes taped.. have lots of those too !
I like your idea of removing the pellets from the mulch... I would probably just use a box... HAH !
Yes on the electrical box or really any metal box with a hinged lid. This link has more info....
@pluric Ahhhh yes... that's a great thread... love those targets you've made !
Really like that bell target !
I'm still interested if you decide to make them for sale !
