What do you plan to do with airguns? Indoor target shooting...long-range outdoor hunting...or somewhere in between? 😁

Good morning Petrucci.

There's no right answer to your question.

I chose WFTF because I wanted to shoot in other countries. I picked up a TX 200 and a used 8-32 Bushnell Elite and started shooting. It made sense to me not to spend for top of the line gear before I had any experience in the game.

I've got friends that believe in "Buy Once, cry once."  Get the best gear you can afford. You can always sell it and loose less than you would in the long run by going through several upgrades.

If you haven't already, I'd suggest going to a match. You don't need to stay for the whole thing & might get the most out of talking to the people during sight-in.

I'd suggest you pay as much attention to optics as your mental bandwidth can handle. Scopes are highly personal. I know a guy who had better luck with a Sightron than a March. He recouped most of his expense for the March when he sold it.

    Welcome

K

Iguanas are not particularly difficult animals to hunt.
Depends on the terrain. In dense jungle something as simple as a pump-up 0.22" in the 12->16 ft-lbs region with a 3-9X scope will do.
OR, you may need to take longer shots in more open terrain, and then you will need a higher powered airgun, whether spring or PCP, that can put out at least 17-18 ft-lbs and a 4-16X scope would be needed.

Within that framework there are tons of combinations that are suitable for every possible budget.

HTH, keep us posted!

There are lots of iguana hunting videos on YouTube. I would suggest that you watch them, and see what they are using. I’ve watched some, and the guns range from 20+ FPE springers, to big bore PCPs. What’s your budget?

@petrucci12  I did great hunting Iguanas in Puerto Rico with a 16 FPE R-9 .20 with a 4-12 scope that Poli let me use.

Springers take more practice to shoot accurately. Pcps require a high pressure air source such as a hand pump (lots of work) or a compressor (lots of money for a good one). A pump up rifle is a good in between. Down side you need to pump it in between every shot and it's noisy when you pump.

@straitflite A little more like fish than chicken, to me at least.
