Somehow I acquired a .22 Discovery,a month later finally got a hand pump for it.
So using JSB Diabolo Jumbos I get around 24 shots ;keeping air pressure in the green zone.
Stopping when the air pressure gets to the low yellow zone it take around 60 hand pumps to get it,the Discovery back to the high yellow line.
Does that sound right, how can I get more shots ?
60 pumps is not a work out,but it cuts down on my shooting time.Thank you.
You could tune it down so that the pellet speed is less, thereby using less air and getting more shots per fill.
Depends on what you want to use it for. If it's just for plinking then you could tune it very slow. If it's for hunting then typically state law dictates the minimum speed.
You can also add a regulator, about $90 or so, which will give you a better shot count and a flat power curve until you go below regulated pressure.
Remember that using a reg to get more shots will probably require more pumps to bring it up to pressure again, since you can use a wider pressure range with acceptable velocity(drop) variation.
For plinking use especially, the best ratio of cost/effort vs gains is to grind some metal off the sides of the striker. A lighter, faster responding striker makes less noise, uses less air for the same velocity, shortens lock time, and lowers the fill pressure sweet spot, for easier pumping. The only downside is that you can lock the gun up if you overfill.
