About an inch into the spring compression I get a click. Other than that everything is normal. Any ideas?

Check the thrust washer for nicks.

Polish BOTH ends of the spring if you do not have a TIGHT TopHat at the front. If you do,  then ensure that the rear end is well polished as well as both sides of the thrust washer.

Check the guide for nicks and scratches

Of course, check the spring

Check also that the trigger is returning to its position (the REAL reason why that trigger has an independent return spring).

Check that the cocking linkage is working properly and tight.
