Yep, it's that time of year when, just like Ralphie, an airgunner starts to dream of what they hope to find under the tree come Christmas morning. Will it be a long rectangular box or will it be a smaller one with that certain, must have, accessory in it? So what is it that you are hoping to find under the tree this year?
I've already got mine. It came early in the form of a new Beeman R9 in .177. It was a combination late birthday/early Christmas present to myself. Right now it's wearing an older version Hawke Airmax 4-12x40 but I hope to eventually top it off with the new version of the Nikon 3-9x40 EFR. It's a little early in the break-in yet but the accuracy looks very promising. It's also a bit twangy and shooting a little stronger than I would like but I have a JM kit for it that will cure both of those issues.
Hope you all have a good and safe Christmas Holiday.
And may you find what you were wishing for under the tree!
Thanks.
Yeah, the new stock is nice. It fills the hands good but doesn't feel bulky or chunky like some stocks do. And, for me, the comb height is a good compromise for either open sights or scope use. As much as I'd like to have one of the older Goudy style stocks, mainly for it's classic lines, I don't think I'd trade this stock for one.
HW has upgraded several of their springer stocks. One that they haven't upgraded is the HW35 stock and I think that's fine because that stock style is part of the HW35's charm and classic looks. If PA would get some of the new style R7 stocks as extras I'd grab one of those for my HW30S. I like the looks of those, too.
What will your JM kit set the gun at power wise?
I've got one of his adjustable power GSX UK kits. The description says it's adjustable (with included spacers) for sub-12ft-lbs to near full power. (Also says it's for .177 only and not for heavier pellets.) Not sure where it will end up power wise but I'd like to try it at around the 12ft-lb level and see how it does. Others that have an R9 or HW95 set up at that power seem to like it.
Jim,
My favorite platform, I was petting my 98 and 85 just yesterday, love those rifles. Let me know how the kit ends up, I am very curious. I have a couple of those kits stashed back. Also just got in a couple of those kits with just the top hats recently. They look promising. My last 95, I put it together with the Vortek 12 fpe kit and I couldn't believe how smooth that was.

I've got one of those drop-in kits, too. Been thinking about trying it first and then playing with the UK kit. Would be interesting to see how the drop-in kit compares to the factory internals and how the UK kit does when adding the spacers to it.
Glad to hear that your 95 was a smooth shooter at the 12ft-lb level. That's what I'm hoping for with this one. Still wish we had someone stateside that made short stroke adapters like the folks in the UK can get. That would drop the power a bit by reducing the volume and would also give a little quicker shot cycle as compared to just using a lower power spring.
That's a beaut, Jim, but I know of one accessory you need -

ps- Thanks again for the teardown links, still working on a spring compressor -

Thanks, Steve.
Ha ha...I just happen to have a spare Apex stashed back. Just not sure I'll use it on this R9. If it will fit without having to file the front sight dovetails down I might, though. Just don't really want to put a file to the barrel, if ya know what I mean.
I did add a little bling to it by way of a set of Tim Einck brass screw cups that I've had stashed away. And if JM ever has some more of his bronze HW safeties I'd add one of those to it, too.
Good luck with the compressor. Lots of designs out there to look over before you decide what style you want. And regarding the links, no problem. Hope they help.
