Thanks Mike, I have a TX and Prosport I hunt with so the weight of a 97 isn't something which concerns me.  The only prices Krale can't be competitive on are the Dianas.  Not their fault though.

Still looking for people's opinions on caliber.

I got used to .177 from shooting Field Target. Nice flat trajectory. Now you can buy JSB from 16 grains to 7.3. This gives you pellets with the same weights as .22 cal. You can hunt with heavies and compete with 8.4 grain.

I also watched a U-Tube where guys shot .177 and larger calibers into putty. The wound channel of .177 was not signifigantly smaller.

I have the .22 black thumb hole,I like .22 ,easier for me to load, the rifle is Pig heavy, see no reason for it other the Germans seems to think heavier is better,ok it makes it stable,it is accurate, glad I got it,I also love beacon....

I'd go .22 for hunting. I have springers in .177, .22 and .25 and now that I'm a bit older, I much prefer handling larger pellets in the field, all other things being equal. That is my opinion.

I used a 77 in 22 ( using 15.9 jsb )and it was very effective out to 70 yds on crows.

I f I was primarily doing target I prefer 177 in this platform.

I have had .177, .22 and .20. In my opinion the power plant is best suited to the .177. All were accurate as heck, but the bigger calibers had too much drop for my uses.

I wouldn't roll the dice on getting a Weihrauch in .22 caliber. Every one I have had in .22 has been a poor shooter. I'd get the .177 and never look back.

I hunt exclusively with air rifles, mostly springers, and the .177 is still my pick. Especially in a heavy and accurate rifle like the HW97. 13-13.5fpe in a HW97 in .177 is a plenty deadly combination and flat shooting.

22...I have a hard time handling and loading 177.

light pellets will give flatter trajectory in any caliber.

there is always a trade off in fpe/speed/accuracy equation...the trick is to find which meets your needs/wants... ?

I have a R9 20 cal which drops squeeks at 45 yards....I use FTS 11.0 grain...it is a good compromise between .177 and .22 in my opinion.

I have a .20 R10 in a Steve Cocoran stock that's a blast!!

Very accurate with the FTS!!

Used to have a .22 TX and a HW77 in .20.    I've got a 97k now in .20 cal and I'd buy another if it went away.   I have a hard time handling and loading a .177 in the 97's loading space. Carpal tunnel and the need for bifocals makes bigger pellets easier to manage.  Good luck on your purchase.

I have one in .177 cal and it’s great!  I only shoot targets with it, no critters.  I would like to try one in .22 someday just for a comparison.  Mine is shooting around 11.5 fpe power level.  Really a great rifle once I warmed up to it.  It IS a pig as others have mentioned but it’s a loveable pig!

I have had a few in .22 in both 97k and 77k models.  Only pellets I found that shoot descent are H&N Ftt in 5.53 to 5.54.  All of mine liked the fat pellets only.  I do find the .22 more effective on body shots with squirrels and even more so spine shots if you have one in a tree top.  About 40 yds is where my limit was.

I have not shot any for awhile with my .177 HW 97's, but would stick with a hard pellet if possible like the H&N.

I sold all my .22 cal springers but if I did it again would get a TX200 full size in .22.  I have had a couple of them in .22 and can get them shooting around 720 fps with JSB pellets and they can take the heads off birds at 40 yds.

My HW .22's all maxed out around 680-690 fps at 620' sea level.

Thanks everyone.  I went with the '97 in .22 from Krale.

This'll be my first Weihrauch in .22.  I've had Dianas, BSAs, Air Arms and some other weird stuff in twenty two but not HWs.  Or Anschutz now that I think about it.  Oh and FWBs.
