Hello All,

New forum member here who could use some guidance.

I have a 1986 Weihrauch HW 77 Mk II (Serial # 1025XXX ) chambered in 0.177 caliber which I want to configure with peep sights. I am trying to obtain a really nice Globe Target Front Sight with fine inserts to use with this air rifle.

I have a Williams FP-AG-TK rear sight which will arrive tomorrow and I will probably fit is with a Gehmann variable iris aperture. I need to confirm and purchase a high quality front globe sight that will work well with this rear sight.

My HW77 is a cocking lever style air gun with a block that remains on the end of the gun when the front sight is removed. There is a small 8mm dovetail atop this end block. I think newer HW77s may have a wider dovetail on this end block but I'm not for certain thus I don't know if the Globe Sight currently offered by PA or Air Venturi will work with my older HW77.

Following are the dimensions of the dovetail on the forward end block of my HW77:
Dovetail Width (narrowest groove width: 7.95-8.00mm)
Dovetail Width (widest width at top: 8.3mm)
Dovetail Length: ~ 30mm Dovetail Height: ~ 1.35mm

For anyone who has already gone through this and found a solution your help would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance for your support!

Best regards,

Keith

the Air Venturi will not fit, bought 2 for a project, they are plastic one of the screw caps is a dummy, only one screws of, they do take Anschutz insert

you will need a Diana, Anschutz or Weihrauch front globe, walter would work Kimber 82 would work both take 15.9mm inserts

Lyman 20 or 93 could work they take Anschutz insert

they all take different inserts Diana 15.9mm, Anschutz 17.2mm and i'm not sure about the HW but they only have 5 when bought new

i would guess a 18 or 22 mm Gehmann would work with clear inserts but if you want to go with a post the other sight will be the ticket

just some info, they will be 35 to 70 bucks and i have bought many off Ebay but sometimes the sells have no idea what they are selling, i have messaged many to tell them what it is, not what they have posted

good luck

Thank you Mike, I really appreciate your reply. I contacted Chambers in the UK and they could not offer a globe sight solution to fit the 8mm dovetail on my rifle. Seems most of the older EU front dovetails are 9-11mm in width and the US made front globe sights that I found on E-bay are 3/8" width.

I've had no luck finding a dovetail adapter plate that will adapt my 8mm dovetail to any of the available sights.

Looks like I may have to purchase a 9mm dovetail and hope that it tightens down enough to work or I can shim it to work.

Best regards,

Keith

Hello Keith and welcome to the forum!

You have several options, some with minimal fitting:

a) Get a DIANA "korntunnel" DIANA offered more than 60 inserts and three different heights of tunnels, so it should be possible to get a good set for you.

b) Get a Walther "korntunnel" less inserts, but more oriented towards target shooting.

For both you will need to get a "60 degrees dovetail file) to fit the dovetails to YOUR gun. (it is truly minimal).

c) a Tru Glo front sight like the one described here:

https://www.ctcustomairguns.com/hectors-airgun-blog/the-super-plinkerbest-of-both-worlds-diana-280

Can be fitted to the HW's (something I learnt recently from the friend that ordered that rifle).

d) getting a custom adapter block made that puts a Lyman cross-dovetail on the top of your axial dovetail.

I've done all four. It all depends on what you want to do with the gun. More formal target shooting requires aperture inserts. Though some really good shooting can be done with the TruGlo if you learn to shoot with both eyes open, as you can see from this thread: https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=191390.0

Thank you very much Hector, the info you provided is very much appreciated! I've communicated with a GTA forum member and it appears that one of the HW globe sights he has will fit the dovetail on my rifle. I'm going to give that one a shot to confirm if it will work, if not, then I will investigate the options you have provided above.

Thanks again,

Keith
