The current HW50S and HW99S are basically the same gun. For some reason it's known as the 50S here but in the UK it's the 99S. And from what I understand the HW57 is pretty much the same internally but in an under lever design. But the older HW50 is a different gun from the current 50S. Not sure when the change between the two HW50's took place.

Thanks Jim. I'm in deep thought about buying one of these and considering the possible tune kits, hence my question. Probably should have mentioned that lol. It does seem they are advertised on various dealer sites about the same fps, with the exception of the 99S which appears  in terms of ME, being mostly UK like you said. I think I read somewhere that the older HW50S's were basically R8's. (?) Hope I'm not breaking any rules here but it seems that AOA sells Weihrauchs considerably cheaper than anyone else. Krale is only slightly cheaper with shipping but I personally have never dealt with them. I'll probably salivate for a while over these beauties but I'll wind up with one of 'em sooner rather than later.

BTW, I love your tagline. I bet I don't even own half a dozen DVD's but Jeramiah Johnson is one of them!

Skin that pilgrim and I'll getcha another!

I've got an HW50S and really like it. As it is now, it's my favorite springer. It was really twangy out of the box so I put one of JM's full power SG2 kits in it. That really tamed the twang and improved the shot cycle. Now it's a quick, solid feeling shot cycle with recoil that comes straight back into my shoulder. Even passes the pellet on turret test, lol. It's shooting the 7.87gr Air Arms Express at 765fps and I think the accuracy even edges out my HW30S.

Weihrauch HW30S | Hawke Scope

With the price Pyramyd Air has on them now and a 10% off code it's a good bargain, and not much more than I gave for mine on sale during their "Christmas in July" special a few years ago. But if you can hold out until Black Friday or Cyber Monday, Pyramyd usually has special discount codes for those sales that can be used with the free shipping.

No experience with the HW57. But I am intrigued by it and wouldn't mind trying one some day.

Thank you much for the info. I now have it stored in my "hip pocket". Its good to hear about the great accuracy results you're having with the 50S. I bought my son an R7 several years ago and although that gun certainly has its niche, I prefer a little more heat when plinking or taking out these never ending starlings. I'm leaning toward the 57 because it is so intriguing. I heard about the pop up breach misalignment issues on the initial production runs that were quickly corrected by Weihrauch. Wish I knew where the the good serial numbers  begin in case I come across a good deal on a used one. They certainly are more expensive. I've always admired the looks and reputation of the HW77 but could never justify the power to weight ratio since I'm not strictly a pure bench or FT individual. It would be really cool if the 57 could be a modest version of that one. The HW77 owners may holler "blasphemy!" if they read this lol

Lol...Consider that my little contribution to airgun enabling ?. It's nice to see that the price on the HW50S has come down some. When I got mine about 3 years ago PA had them listed at $399.99. Probably never would have got one if it weren't for the special sale they had at the time.

On the HW57, I'm with you. I'd like to know when HW corrected the pop-up breech issue, too. I don't recall ever seeing any mention of when it was as far as serial numbers go, but I have read that it was fairly early on. From what I've read about the 57 on some of the British airgun forums it sounds like it has about the same shot cycle and accuracy as the HW50S/99S. And being about the same size and power as the 50S is a big part of what appeals to me about it, too. Maybe someday I'll end up with one. But right now I've got my eyes set on something else, lol. And yeah, it would be kinda cool if it was a scaled down sliding breech gun like the 77/97.

Good luck with your decision. But I don't think you would go wrong whichever way you went, 50S or 57.
