HPA fittings warning if you have a pcp you need to read this!

https://hardairmagazine.com/buyers-guides/hpa-fittings-warning-if-you-have-a-pcp-you-need-to-read-this/

This is a HPA fittings warning for anyone who either has – or is thinking of getting – a PCP airgun. It’s been a voyage of discovery for me…

The important points are these:

1. Contrary to what “everyone” says, there is no standard for these quick disconnect fittings.

2. You need to inspect your fittings TODAY as they can become damaged with use. I found one and it’s frightened me!

Yes, yes there is. Buy all the same brand, standard achieved, time saved.

It'd be nice to see those females checked with gauge pins, to determine if brand X was 0.004" over on both OD and ID.

To see if one brand of fitting runs large, or another small, and the problem is caused by mixed brands or tolerance stacking.

The best strategy to avoid being whipped by a hose, treat it like a snake. Hold the head, and at arm's length.

I DO NOT like brass for this application! Or NPT for that matter LOL

Even though the male OD issue could be easily fixed with a cordless drill and a file (because brass) steel makes more sense here. Even with a tight male, the female's hoop strength concerns me, particularly when combined with point loading 4 teeny spheres.

You'll find these Milton V Purples to be amazing, BEST FITTINGS EVER!!!

Sandblaster, nailer, DA sander, die grinders. REEEEE!!!! Unless you put them on an impact gun. Impact go brrrrr.

Estimated 95% reduction in lifespan, by way of the steel balls gouging the aluminum male's shoulder into oblivion.

Brrrrrrrrrr! POP! WHACK! meow... (licks lip to check for blood)

Looking at the working side of two steel fill nipples. Doesn’t matter if they are direct fills, or if adapted to fill probes. Takes a while, both of these have had maybe 10 years of use.

Larger diameter steel fill nipple. Wear marks from the locking ball wear marks are about as far “in” as they can be (leaving a rub-ring on the non-beveled part).

Small diameter steel fill nipple. Locking balls closer to the edge of the bevel, which eventually makes for burrs. A fight to get the fill hose on or off.

The brass one got pretty chewed up in 2 year’s worth of use.  Can see the same wear pattern just starting on the one used in the Hard Air photo.

I see this on fittings supplied by Airforce, Ninja, PyramydAir, and others.

A standard means anyone can produce a copy of male or female, and they should be 100% compatible with anyone else’s foster type fittings. Right now they are loosely kinda sorta compatible and that’s gonna get people hurt.

:anyone

Were my last name Lewartow, I too would be a shitty machinist.

When you're quoting a post, select (highlight) the text which is impertinent and backspace it away. Much cleaner!

Using another definition of impertinent, anytime someone quoted me it would appear as follows. 🤣

When attempting to test my Marauder with CO2, the (original?) male fit was discovered to be oversized in the collar area.

In the spirit of being every man, I decided to try using a file and drill to make the adjustments. BRB with some pics!
